We are booked (I) on QF21 in Sep 15. Booked through Expedia late last year. Suddenly QF21 is not on either Expedia or Qantas's website. Called Expedia, but no joy, just repeating that we have a confirmed ticket.

Qantas confirmed that they are not selling tickets for this flight only QF25 to Haneda, but, "only the powers to be know what will happen and they don't have a crystal ball, as it is a long way out and we will be advised eventually if our flight is cancelled to Narita or both flights will operate".

Several issues come to mind, will we have guaranteed seats on the same day/class? Same seats as already booked on QF21? Need to consider bookings for transfers, hotels, etc.

Any suggestion/advise would be welcome thanks in advance:confused:

The SYD-NRT QF21/22 is moving to HND as QF25/26 from August and a 4 weekly BNE-NRT QF61/62. There will be other NRT flights on the 3 days/week the BNE flight doesn't operate. It is not yet known which Australian port those flights will use.

The HND flight will use a 747 as is currently used for QF21/22. The new NRT flights will use A330s. If the yet to be announced NRT flights are from SYD and you're flying on those days, it may be possible that you'll be kept on the NRT flight. Otherwise, they'll shift you to the HND flight.

What was the advantage of booking through expedia? I can't imagine QF ditching you but then the new seats might be subject to a different fare? But my experience with trips to JP is outside of ski season there all much of a muchness. Haneda is more convenient than Narita

The advantage booking with Expedia was $1200 per ticket. When we booked, the only direct flight with QF was to Narita. Happy to change to Haneda but at this point would have to pay penalties for flight change.

You'll likely have to wait until they announce the remaining 3 weekly Australia-NRT route.
They might also still be waiting for government approval from the Japanese side for the new routes (they have it from the Australian side).

If you have a valid ticket, and the flight is no longer operating as per your ticket, you can ask to be moved to the flight that is operating. You don't need to wait until QF decides what they are going to do. At the moment, from what you say, you are holding a ticket for a flight that doesn't exist.

If you want certainty, you can call (or write) to QF now and state you are looking to book accommodation and you need a firm answer.

If you are happy to wait, you have the choice to do so. But you may currently be on a non-stop and the NRT flight in future sounds like it might stop in BNE... so that may not be convenient for you.

Booked early to get a non-stop flight and not happy to wait for Qantas to make a decision. They sold us the tickets, now they tell me to wait until a decision is made. Not good enough. The problem is to get to someone with authority at Qantas as it does not seem possible via call centre. Any suggestions? Thank you for your reply

expedia is an agent for Qantas. The passenger has the contract directly with Qantas. In a case like this I think the passenger should be able to go directly to the operating airline.

To do with QF not deciding if the non-BNE NRT flights will still be SYD or go to MEL or PER instead?

i would call customer care, or else email them. Press the urgency that you need to make subsequent booking arrangements for hotels etc, and see what they have to say. Having this documented will work in your favour at a later date if they change flight times or schedules leaving you out of pocket.

There is a rule stating that to use the long haul HND slots, they have to maintain service at NRT. The interpretation of that rule has varied by airline and country, and the UK has asked Japan to get rid of it.

QF may be trying to find out from Japans MLIT if they have to have a SYD-NRT flight in addition to the SYD-HND flight, or if any Australian port to NRT is fine.
If QF gets an interpretation that any Australian port is fine, then we could see the BNE flight become daily, or MEL take up the other 3 days. If they get told otherwise, then those 3 flights will go to SYD.

Just an update, finally managed Expedia to change our flight to QF25, Haneda, without penalties. Only issue now is to get the itinerary confirmed. It has been "waiting for confirmation" for 5 days now, instead of the 24 hours on their website.
Checked on QF website and also shows the change to the new flight. Hopefully it will show soon, otherwise another long call to Expedia.
