QF2 : BKK-> MEL

As per a previous thread, I am travelleing to the UK in April with SAS and Qantas in a mix of J and Y class (MEL-> BKK -> CPN-> MAN -> CPN -> BKK -> MEL).

We switch from SAS to QF in BKK to join QF2 on the way back home. I have presumed that we do not have to collect our bags and re-check them back in at Sydney as you do when travelling through the US? Can anyone confirm.

Also, has anyone experienced SAS J class?

Neil, I would believe that SAS and Qantas have an interline agreement, meaning that the check-in CSA at CPN will wbe able to check your bags through to MEL (with both sectors showing on the bag tags). As you are only a transit passenger (Intl to Intl) at BKK, then you don't need to collect your bags - you won't see them until MEL.

Now whether the CSA can produce your BKK/MEL QF2 boarding pass, is another question. I presume not, you might have to go to one of the Transfer Desks at BKK (airside) to obtain. It may depend whether the QF flight has been opened for check-in at the time you are booking in for your CPN/BKK sector.

SAS Business class

I took the SAS/QF mixed class fare last year, via TYO. My bags were certainly checked all the way through from Europe to SYD (though I don't recall whether I was checked in for my TYO-SYD sector in Europe. Who cares, really? Only takes a second.)

As for the quality of SAS business class, it's excellent. It isn't up there with QF, BA or SQ insofar as there are no flat beds. But it's an extremely competitive product, especially for the price. The Scandinavians really understand customer service and the whole experience is a class act (unlike similarly-priced business class services such as China Airways).

I am not sure which terminal at NRT is used by SAS. QF use terminal 2. If you have to change terminals, you will need to show something to the security agents at the x-ray scanner and bus boarding points. They usually look for a boarding pass, but if a BP was not issued by the originating carrier they ask to see the ticket. Now if it is an e-ticket you can show the baggage receipt which also shows the connecting flight number.

So if changing termals (not difficult at NRT, just follow the signs) make sure you have you connecting board pass, ticket or baggage receipt handy. As mentioned, getting the connecting boarding pass in terminal 2 is simple, - just follow the signs to the transfer desk and present your ticket or passport. If flying business class or as a Qantas Club member or Gold or Platinum FF you will be invited to the JAL lounge in the satellite terminal. No showers, and not much food, but the automatic beer poorer is worth the visit.

Did you get QFF miles and SC's for your trip?
