QF175 BNE to LAX - AVOD?

I know Qantas are rolling out AVOD on their 747-400s over the next 12 months or so. Does anybody know if the BNE to LAX direct flights have this feature yet?

i am flying BNE - LAX half a dozen times between the start of March and the early May. At this stage, as i understand it, there are no aircraft operating these services equipped with AVOD.

i suspect that because there is little/no competition on this route for QF that it will be one of the last to be fitted out. this was the case with the skybed rollout - the BNE/MEL/SYD - LAX routes were some of the last to be fitted in the skybed rollout due to the lack of alternatives on these routes.

AVOD is being installed on aircraft, not on routes. Currently about 50% of the 2-class 744's have it installed, and it is that aircraft type that operates the QF175/176 BNE-LAX-BNE services. Until all of the 2-class 744's have been upgraded, there is no guarantee that any particular 2-class route will have it on any particular day. The 2-class aircraft are not dedicated to any particular route, but are used across all the 2-class routes.

You'll find that [BNE-LAX-BNE] QF 175/6 are two of the flights that will have AVOD most regularly. It is predominately operated by 2-Class 744s. Competition doesn't really have anything to do with the AVOD upgrade. The reason 2-Class 744 aircraft are getting AVOD first is because they were the last to get the Skybed upgrade, and when QF decided on installing AVOD, it was easier to install the system during the Skybed upgrade then to have to fly the plane down to AVV again and waste more valuable time.

Kalan, it seems the AVOD upgrade process has been delayed yet again and not all 744s may have the system by JAN '07.

The only way you'll know whether you have AVOD on your flight, is to obtain the aircraft rego. a few days prior to departure. Then with the rego. it is possible to check my fleet thread then determine whether you will have AVOD or not.

You need have access to QF's systems, or know someone who has access. The information is not available on any publicly accessible sites.

That's doesn't always work though ... somes for worse, sometime for better.

Here as perfect example from last year: Dang It! QF have switched Configs on me!.

just flew in from LAX on qf176 and it was a 3 class plane. sat in 3k. 10 hours sleep. Great stuff!
