Hello Brains Trust,

Can anybody give me an idea of the schedule allocated aircraft running on QF11 SYD/LAX..

I have a flight in October on a Saturday morning, looking at Flight radar over the last few week QF11 seems to rotate between a A380 or a 787.

Is there any rhyme or reason to why they switch aircraft types so many times during the week…??

Can I guarantee I’ll be on in a 380 on a Saturday morning

I got an ExpertFlyer alert last night that my QF0093 MEL-LAX for next March has gone from a 388 to a 789.

Of course, Qantas hasn't informed me yet. Their app shows two seat assignments, being my old one and the new one (which is acceptable I guess). The J seat on the 789 is fine (and pretty much identical to the 388) but I wouldn't have minded checking-out the new lounge area.

Email from QF today - QF12 LAX-SYD early November equipment changed to 789 due to "unscheduled maintenance on A380 fleet". Assuming the inbound SYD-LAX (or a MEL-LAX) will also have to change accordingly unless it's being done in LA.

Missed out on getting to fly F for the first time. Also the downgrade on fare class killed my WP qualification which would have ticked over on the way back. Any ideas on whether that's grounds for an ORC for the difference in SC's due to equip change?

Email from Qantas says they will still allow us to use the F lounge at LAX before departure but no souvenir PJs I guess.
You should certainly pursue ORC if an involuntary downgrade by QF.

I probably want to keep the nonstop routing anyway, but just checking:

On a classic reward, does A380>B787 equipment change qualify to request rerouting via SYD, which is offering A380 that day? I suspect not.

Email received today for a flight on the 22nd of this month.. Stated metal change to a 787 and that my seat may change as a result.. I’ll be disappointed if I get downgraded to Y from PE after paying $9,800 return to the east coast of the US.

What’s their plan, are the A380s going to be phased out, or serviced and then brought back into service?
I can only assume that the decision to bring most back means they will see out their 15-20 life span. QF has stated 2 are gone as discussed on these threads, but yes they all need servicing, some need fit outs, and they need crews, so who knows when they will all be back - mid 2024?.

Thanks, we make bookings in our preferred class on an A380 as per their schedule on QF11 and then it all changes.

QF12 on Saturday 8th from LAX was a 787, not a single spare seat on the flight. EF was showing me a shadow right up until 2hrs before boarding.

787's both ways on this latest USA trip and both at 100% capacity.

My First QF12 booking for early December is still intact, but I'm expecting a downgrade any week now...

Problem is with so few flights I probably can't even get rebooked onto an A380 service if this one is downgraded.

Where are they getting the 787's from to operate these flights with so many downgrades? Are other flights elsewhere being cancelled entirely?
This. Weren't they deferring planned routes due to undersupply of 789s before they started pulling the 388s from the schedule?

Constantly pushing back flights to SFO and the Rome route ending, perhaps? But I agree, it's weird to see that we haven't had an A388 return in a while.

I dunno about American Rodents, but there's also the wing crack inspection/repair issue that came up a month or so ago that is impacting on QF 380's as it needs near two months out of service per aircraft, so to get them all done it's a rolling impact unfortunately.
