I've noticed some strange behaviour with QF 107 and QF 108 from July onwards on the LAX/JFK and JFK/LAX part of the route. Commencing Tuesday July 6, availability for both these services on Tuesday's and Thursday's is showing either 0 or C on ExpertFlyer. I have tried a number of dates through to Jan 2011 and it is the same for every Tue and Thurs. Checking the seat maps, people are booked on these services, but the planes are almost empty - presumably because you can't book a seat!!

Has QF indicated that they are cutting Tues and Thurs services on these routes? Any other ideas as to why they would not be selling seats on these flights.

I checked on qantas.com and you can fly on 107 to LAX from Sydney but then you have to transfer to AA and vice versa you can also fly 108 from LAX to SYD after flying on AA from JFK???

Ideas??

QF are running an A330 on that route from July 5, freight is the earner on that leg, connects and operates the NZ flight so that would explain the dates.

I see - thanks for the tip. E/F is still showing this as 744 (as it is for QF25 and 26). I guess this will change once the aircraft is made available for service. Still seems interesting they don't want to sell any seats on the service though - surely they can just reduce availability rather than make it all 0??

Just JFK-LAX vv or all the way to/from SYD?

Can a A330 really hold that much freight?

Terminates in AKL - freight capacity is similar to 747-400 without worrying about filling the seats above as much, as well as lower operating costs.

In fact the A330 has more freight load available with full passengers than a 747-400, 80.2m3 versus 73.4m3, so lamb exports ex NZ to USA should go up :)

Capacity and Loading - By Aircraft

Cheers for the link. So 107/108 is now SYD-AKL-LAX-JFK vv???

No, I believe still SYD-LAX then a change of aircraft at LAX, unless QF decide to rejig flight numbers.

This just went up on the Qantas Industry Site...

Seems I'm affected by the aircraft switch'erroo

I'm flying on QF108 JFK-SYD on 11/8 .... so JFK-LAX is on an airbus, then i switch at LAX onto a boeing for SYD ... correct? my reservation just says its an airbus all the way

I am flying out of NY on Friday 3rd September on flight QF108, with a connection to QF94 (LAX-MEL).

The JFK-LAX leg is A330 and the LAX-MEL is A380 (note the QF108 to SYD that day is a 747).

I am worried about the QF10late jibes, and hope the A330 has a better turn around at JFK than 747?

Welcome to AFF, QF10late's main issue is with aircraft traffic at JFK. I've departed the gate in it (on schedule) there and spent 65 minutes taxiing before actually taking off.

Having noted that, Qantas have put more padding into the schedules and it seems not to be such an issue these days.

Have read on threads that flying MEL-LAX-JFK you must collect bags and clear customs before re-checking bags.

Is this the same going the other way or can you check bags all the way through from JFK to MEL?

Thanks in advance.

Peter

Your bags are through checked to MEL from JFK. I flew this route in April.
