QF1/9 cancellations coming?

Today’s QF9 has been cancelled and ExpertFlyer shows no availability - in any class - on either QF1 or QF9 until next Wednesday.

You also can’t book them on qantas.com.

Any ideas what’s going on? Maybe the 9 is being paused thanks to Russia?
 
I was just looking at this, I'm flying out on this week. There was availability this morning and now it's been zeroed out.

What are the loadings looking like in the other direction? i.e.. QF 2/10.

Four scenarios:
i) They are cancelled
ii) They are full
iii) They are not full but the modified flightpath comes with load restrictions so they can’t take any more pax
iv. They are consolidating 1/9 and 2/10 into one flight - hence zeroed all out to move pax across.
 
QF2 is still showing availability. I'll keep an eye on my booking and my fingers crossed.
 
Yep, plenty of seats on both 2 and 10 so maybe it’s load restrictions.
 
Fuel price starting to bite.....June will be the crunch

They don't have a free 787 sitting around in LHR, so if a QF flight on the 787 range does not leave Aust in enough time, then there will not be a return of that some aircraft coming back to Aust, no?
A QF 787 departing Mon, will have a Tue/Wed departing LHR for the return.
 
The 1 & 9 are both operating with loads that are appalling by any standard. The airlines certainly didn't need Putin to drop another spanner in the works, just as covid (and the panicky politicians) were receding. There's a NOTAM out re works in Darwin, and both flights are operating at their performance limit out of there...but around 20 tonnes under the actual max. Time to move to Katherine.

With the latter two, I have yet to see anything close to full on EF for whY.
 
Thanks williamsf1 and jb747. That’s certainly what the seat maps suggest. Fingers crossed the upgrade gods are still kind :)
 
Time to move to Katherine.

Might actually make sense to move 1/2 back to SIN now that transit restrictions are lifted, which in addition to requiring less load restrictions on the way to LHR (although still requiring a 1 hr detour), also shore up MEL services (QF35/6) so they could support close to daily (only running a few days a week right now).

2 and 10 generally fly with the assistance of "tail winds", 1 and 9 the opposite.

The 1 and 9 are rarely operating at maximum take off weight, so the issue would seem to be lack of passengers. I certainly would not want to be travelling in the current environment, and I suspect that I'm not alone.
What about Broome?
It would be a nice place if it were on the east coast. What else about it?

Re first point, recent market research found only 15pc of us want to do what you don't advise. Suspicions appear 100pc correct.
