We are booked in J on QF005 SYD-SIN on the 7 September, and were trying to decide between upper deck or a row of 3 downstairs (3 pax). Previously the seat selection indicated it was either 2 or 3 class with 56J (uppper plus front and small second section).

Now looking at seat selection, there is upper, and only the front section with 1+2+1 which looks like F sold as J.

Anybody know if this is a more permanent change (possibly reducing total number of sold J to then sell Y+ in the lower J seats) as different planes come in/out of service?

I was interested in switching to the F seats, however looking at some online pictures they seem as though the seats (and in particular the IFE) are not much different (read better) than the Skybed Mk1's upstairs. Seat guru states 32" vs 31.5" width. Any thoughts?

I would say that this is 4 class sold as 3 class. This has been happening on and off on various routes, including SYD-FRA and is related to the process of changing configurations of the 747s.

You're call on the seat, I have no idea. But I think most around here who have experience would recommend the F seats.

I would have thought (hoped!) that the F seat would be better, but I noticed in a picture that the IFE screen looked quite small (obviously all relative:p).

I wouldn't imagine even an old F would be smaller that a Skybed 1 though? But then I guess that is why they are upgrading them.

F seat will be fully flat and horizontal NOT sloping like a SkybedII.

I dont use IFE often but the screen is ok. You will have much more room for your tray.

Personally it would be a no brainer for me to take the F seat with J service. I have actually routed entire trips around doing this...

Thanks. Seems how we are on a cheap JASA I cant really complain about the screen size in an old F seat! JASA on the A380 were not available, and FASA on the A380 (or...gasp...paying cash for it!) are not even worth contemplating, so no realistic better choice anyway.

I had already selected the F seats before posting, so wasn't really giving it a second thought, but when travelling with SWMBO, gotta make sure I have covered all my options!
