I wonder if Hilton Perth will eventually leave the chain, especially when the two DTs open? I cannot say the renovations have added much appeal for me, then again my favorite chain drags its heals in Perth as well with old properties of a similar ilk with Burswood going.

After a great nights sleep - 8 hours no less (no kids coming in at an ungodly hour ;)), I made myself presentable and got down to the Adelphi restaurant for breakfast around 9am. I was greeted by another Hilton employee I have known for years, Deirdre. She remembered my choice of morning drink (Earl Grey) and then Jono made sure that I have enough fruit. Here is my standard breakfast for the next 5 days:

As you can see, I like to start my day with a good breakfast.

Whoops, I forgot to add the Diamond Welcome Amenity photo:

Can I say the nut mix is spicy, so get your bottle of water ready to wash it down

Yesterday was a relaxing opening day for the Conference, an AGM at the Hilton and a Welcome Drinks at the Entertainment Centre yesterday afternoon/evening. Not really much to report and alas, no photos (keeping the commercial nature out of the thread). Good to catch up with fellow attendees, some of whom I have known for up to 30 years

Yesterday (Tuesday) was the start of the Plenary sessions and some workshops that both really had the mind working hard (a technical session) and learning about social issues (Bernard Salt).

My disappointment with the venue - no map in either the Conference Handbook or even in the venue itself. I raised the issue before the first workshop at the Conference Desk (and I wasn't alone), so by the second one there were roving staff directing people and some hastily printed directions.

I was temped to stand here though (this is a spectacular view)

rather than attend the Plenary:

After the end of the Conference, I caught up with 4 members (plus one non member) at the Hiltons Adelphi Bar for drinks and nibbles, then dinner at Oliver's (James Street, Northbridge). See my photos and discussion in my MaM thread

Welcome Drinks at the Entertainment Centre yesterday afternoon/evening.

Your showing your age, we haven't had this for a looooong time. I assume you were at the Convention Centre. Doesn't look much from outside but views are wonderful (until Elizabeth Quay blocks it out)

Day 3 of our Conference is about to finish. Some interesting and thought provoking sessions today.

I should be leaving soon back to the Hilton. See you all at 5:30

<snip>

As we finished, our Conference MC, Adam Spencer, came in beside me to check-in.

How did he go? The bloke is an amazing talent - loved his ABC 702 morning show.

Oh, enjoying the TR

Arriving at the Hilton, I stepped out of the cab and saw Jocelyn, the Hilton Customer Service Exec (close to her real title). Gave her a hug and she took us inside and I suggested she check in my brother first as he only had 2 concurrent bookings (tonight was at our expense and the next 3 days was through the Conference). She merged the two bookings and gave him the key and off he went.

She then turned to my bookings - I had 3 concurrent bookings as I was staying an additional night. She then confirmed that under each booking I had been upgraded to a King Suite, so she made them all in the one room. She also happily allayed my concerns that the King Suite I had been allocated had been refurbed, as I had in my profile here at the Hotel, a request for a Queen Suite (smaller and more to my taste).

As we finished, our Conference MC, Adam Spencer, came in beside me to check-in.

So off I went to the x19 room, a corner Suite.

I was very pleasantly surprised

The Adam Spencer? Bet he was very entertaining.

He was funny and showed that his genes have passed through to his daughter, who is a bit of a young chess player.

Also had Natasha Pincus as the final speaker - probably not known to many, but was a lawyer, a scientist and the producer of Gotyes' film clip which on YouTube has just gone over 531M views
