QF wine are hopeless

I then call the number but the email the confirmation was sent to, my date of birth and my mother's maiden name can't be used to verify me, and they need me to send through passport details and utility statements before they can do anything.

Is this normal?
That sounds super dodgy....

Agreed, I'm going to write the case off as a loss and avoid Qantas Wine. I'm not going to email any of those personal details because even if it is Qantas, we know how loosey goosey they are with our information.

Might even be worth an email to the Qantas Privacy Officer ([email protected]) to voice some concerns given the recent security issues.

Agree. Very suspicious.

I’d tell them to cancel and refund.

If they won’t, credit card charge back?
Because they can't verify me when I call (with the email they sent the confirmation to, my date of birth and my mother's maiden name), they aren't able to bring up the order to do anything. It's Kafka-esque!

I have emailed the Qantas Privacy Officer.

Might be too late if you’ve emailed the privacy officer already, but every email I’ve had from QF since the breach has said this at the top:

Cyber Awareness: Emails from Qantas will never ask you for your personal details, password or PIN. You can log into your Frequent Flyer or Business Account via our Qantas apps or websites. Please visit qantas‌.com/cyber for more information.

So either the email you were sent is bogus, or QF wine are in breach of an internal policy.

It's not the email which is bogus, it's like every other wine order confirmation email I have ever received. The issue is that when I now check on the order when logged into my Qantas account, the delivery date has changed, the tracking order can't be found and it asks me to contact customer service on the phone (1800 505 004), and when I do my details can't be used to verify me, which is why they are asking me to email through copies of my passport and utility bills before the can do anything with the order.

Wow, this just gets better and better
Yes, I am basically at an impasse with Qantas Wine and have just emailed the Qantas Privacy officer with those details. I added "Given Qantas' recently demonstrated lax attitude to our personal details, I will NOT send through a copy of my passport and a recent utility bill to someone in the Philippines, even if it is to a Qantas email."

This is also the second time in a row I've had to cancel an order because of a late or ignored delivery, The last one in September they seem to have just 'forgotten' and ended up crediting back to me.

I'm going to be avoiding Qantas Nein now.

I sense compensation points coming. You know.... once they verify who you are upon sighting your passport, utility bills, birth certificate, copies of all your credit cards (including CVV numbers), Medicare card, TFN, $1000 in Apple Gift Cards and that mouth swab to verify your DNA. 😜

Qantas Nein
🤣
