QF vs EK in F to DXB

Live and learn - never was an issue really, as the normal meal service worked for us.

Yes, the standard service usually suits me, too. I've sometimes asked for something outside meal times on the longer legs and have never had a problem with grudging service or non-availability of any dish.
Perhaps it's an infrequent slip up?

Probably - I've always liked Qantas on board service. It did surprise me to find a steak sandwich was all that was on offer. I ended up asking for some cheese and crackers and after a slight hesitation she said she could do that and hauled all the bits out. I was in the galley - I tend to wander down there and ask for a cup of tea or whatever, rather than disturbing people.

I am starting to wonder if I project such a wimpy personality that people take advantage!

You will have to work on that, FM.
Not in the AFF spirit, at all. :)

I've flown QF 388 F and EK 388 F once each and find it hard to pick between. QFs food was more to my liking and I don't recall being asked to eat at a designated time. I thought one of the perks of F over J on any airline was the ability to eat when you like. But QFs service is a bit spotty. I remember last time I was going to sleep about 6 hours before landing and the flight attendant we were mainly chatting to said would you like me to wake you up an hour and a half before landing because if you wake up later than that you'll miss breakfast. I said Ok but slept in and woke up about an hour before landing in a panic as this was my first F experience so didn't want to miss out on anything.

So I pressed the call button around 6 times in a space of maybe four seconds and a different flight attendant and came and I told her oh no did I miss breakfast and she laughed and said no of course not you're a First class passenger i'll make you eggs even if we are on our descent !

Overall EK F v QF F its very tough for me I'd be just as happy to fly either. I think as a personal preference I tend to prefer the open suites concept as opposed to closed suites meaning I prefer QF or CX seating as opposed to EY or EK but that's when flying alone. The closed suites middle pairing do work better when flying as a couple.

Flying in F on any airline is great no matter.:) Despite the bling, we do now prefer the closed suite system on EK since it allows you to shut out the cabin traffic and be less disturbed by crew wandering about and other px having meals etc. IMHO EK service us consistently better and a press if the call button gets service within 10 seconds.

For QF F, I don't quite get the slightly weird rotating seat . Little strange. BA's F is a similar layout but no seat gyrations. I also like the bathroom and shower on EK 380s. Actually feels like you are in an F cabin.

We don't get the seemingly irrational dislike of the DXB hub. We now prefer DXB over SIN, HK,KL or Bangkok. DXB is a nice airport, easier to navigate and the lounges for F an J are better plus for most flights one accesses the boarding from the lounge meaning less long distance hikes to get to the actual gate and no long distance travelling walkways. DXB unlike the others is a true 24 hr international airport with all facilities open the full 24 hrs. Have been annoyed at SIN over the years when the DF is closed during our stopover. Academic friend doesn't like DXB because it doesn't have a public swimming pool.:) But you can't please everyone.
