Friends

I have a QF voucher from a cancellation in 2012.

Its expiry date is May 17th, 2013.

Could you help clarify the followings for me:

1) Could I book a trip with a departure date well past this expiry date, say Oct 30th, 2013 or all departure has to be before the expiry ?

2) It appears the voucher does not allow online multi-city booking and that must be done by phone contact. Is there any way to get around this apparent road block ? If not, how could the phone assistance fee be avoidable, if possible ?

Many thanks for your advice.

A cancellation voucher generally needs to have at least one flight rebooked before the expiry date.

As for multi-trip booking I do not believe they are possible on cancellation vouchers. Only one-way or return airfares. You can give it a shot with the call centre until you get an agent who maybe willing to book multi-city for you and waive assisted booking fees.

With my cancellation voucher I was told by multiple agents that I had to complete my travel before voucher expiry :+

Good news today for me !

Agent very cheerfully used my cancellation voucher credit (Y+) towards the next flight in Oct 2013 (Y+) with only the "usual" booking ($80) and the change fees ($200).

It appears then you can "extend" the life of your voucher - at some minor costs - well past the original booking date to make it past the 12 months' mark (voucher expiry May; new departure date Oct).

I would not know what to do had QF refused to extend the voucher: maybe attend some unwanted meeting in FL ....

If you cancelled a domestic fare, if you rebook to an international fare you can effectively extend the voucher another 12 months - ie. you can essentially get 2 years out of it. No such luck if you book INT first up.

That's strange.

My initial ticket was Y+ to the USA.

So is the newly issued ticket from that cancellation, also Y+ to the USA.

My experience is a little different from your description, not sure why QF gods are smiling at me today.

I just rechecked the QF policy. I think it may have been amended.

It states that if you reissue to a new fare basis, the time starts again from the new issue date. If you let the ticket "expire" (i.e. don't cancel or have it reissued) though, you can't extend it again. In this case, you can get a refund - but only if the fare rules permit. It also seems to suggest you can convert it to a DOM which I am sure you couldn't do before...

FYI - it's found here:

Acutally, reading this policy again, it almost seems to suggest that you can indefinitely extend the validity if you use a different fare basis...hmmm...

Nice to know that it is possible but ... who would want to keep extending his / her ticket and to incur costs on each occasion

I was told I were to use and fly before voucher expiry... but the booking originated from a voucher and 2 international flight changes.

I guess circumstances change. For example, I had a DOM that I extended for 12 months by booking an INT trip. As I booked it some 9 months in advance, there is a chance I may need to change it. I initially thought that would mean I would still have to fly before June this year - which just wouldn't be possible with everything that I have planned. If I can potentially push it out another 12 months, that could make all the difference.

Agreed!

Even my newly issued ticket for Oct 2013 may need some fine tuning should the circumstances change.

Whether QF would give me further cancellation credit / extension in that case is unknown.
