I have just tried using my points to book a SIN-PER return with QF. The charges all up add to A$378 per person. You can book Jetstar tix all incluse for A$349. Isn't this a little too expensive?

The cheapest JQi ticket i can find is from $865 return. I'm able to book a Qantas return fare (50K points + $210 in taxes).

Are you sure you are trying to book a direct flight using points? If indirect the taxes will be more.

FWIW - the Jetstar taxes are $98.98 - Qantas must add fuel surcharges to Taxes etc.

Qantas International flights still have some pretty hefty fuel surcharges on them. For Australia-Singapore I think it is still around $US100 each way, which would account for a large chunk. The departure tax from Aust is quite significant as well.

I tried. Last week I booked two return Singapore Darwin tickets for A$345.42 in total each with JQ, the same route Qantas charges were more than A$369 per person, see attached.
I can not use my miles at a reasonable rate apparently. When you try buying economy and use miles to upgrade QF flights that never works as well. Can you sell miles in any way???

Good thing you paid for the JQ flights. The Qantas flights would have actually been on the very same Jetstar plane (i.e. it is a Jetstar flight with a (very expensive) Qantas codeshare)

The OP is talking about SIN-PER-SIN which may account for the differences between his and YQY's figures.

If it was my call I'd go with the QF award despite it being a bit higher than JQi. The difference will disappear when you take the extras into account.

72,000 miles for two sandwiches and a couple of beers sounds a little too steep for me mate.

I reckon I can get in more than a couple of beers on either SIN-PER or even SIN-DRW.

This makes me wonder if they allow people to try for Boonies record, in this day and age. Maybe something for a charter flight to the next Ashes....

Ah the great Boonie. We do share a birthday.Always remember the time i first flew into burnie?wynyard about 15 years ago-every male employee was a Boonie double!

On SIN-DRW you'd have tp pay for them.
I realise this is a jetstar thing to do with QF codeshares. But if booking a QF flight on the QF website does it make it clear that you don't get the standard QF service? If not, I would greatly enjoy taking QF to task over this, the QF website is very clear about what is included in general terms.
