QF Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Forgot to note that when I booked flights months ago for my parents to go BNE/MEL/HBA tomorrow and HBA/MEL/BNE in 10 days (going down for the cricket [Dad] and shopping [mum]), I was able to blow some on my stash on immediate upgrades to J for both on the BNE/MEL and MEL/BNE sectors (15K each). I get the points they are earning back via family transfers, so net out of pocket will be 52K. Better that they sit in J and have a decent meal given their advancing age. They were a bit confused when they printed out their BP's this morning and got Row 3 (but they didn't realise it was Business, just thought it was the front of Y :D )

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Partner (PS) and I (SG) upgraded Y+ to J on QF9 MEL-LHR the other day, 3/3 now for upgrades. Hopefully we'll get upgraded on the return....

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Upgrade from Y>J for QF81 SYD-SIN tomorrow confirmed by the good Altea-bots at Qantas around T-23 & a half. Fairly full flight in general, unlike the later QF5 which will go out very light. Low J/C and zero D/I for a while leading up, so had almost relegated myself to the fact I could be in Y for the first time in about 9 months! Not yet! :D

Cheers,
Matt.

Matching upgrade for QF82 SIN-SYD tomorrow night confirmed at T-28. Just for info, I was looking at J4 C4 D0 I0 in the day or so leading up to confirmation.

Now.... to see if MH will check me through from where I am in KUL, on separate tix. I've heard positive things!

Cheers
Matt.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Successful upgrade for QF27 SYD-SCL tomorrow (15/11) from Y to J. Came through at exactly T-24, and fortunately 1A and 1K (old F class) were still available which is great. 45,000 points well spent.

Not so hopeful for QF322 on the way back. All 0's for J on the QF code, and J4 C4 on the LA code. :(

Can you upgrade on LA metal?

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

BNE to HKG last Saturday. 40000 point success!

Booked saver fare Thursday evening and applied straight away.

Came through about 20 hrs prior to departure.

Was not able to get a window seat though until checking in at airport.

Beautiful flight and I thought the service was great.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Upgraded on QF51 BRIS-SIN tomorrow at T-28 as Bronze!! Upgrade for me and my partner. Our first time ever in J. We are both very excited!!

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

I had a successful upgrade request from Y-J on QF767 on the 30th October one of the longest dom flights in aus (BNE-PER) so thought it was worth the fairly low 10k points. Especially as this flight is on an A332. :D

Enjoy. Flying J is fantastic. It's hard to go back to flying Y after tasting J.

Don't forget as you're flying J you can visit the new QANTAS International Lounge in BNE before the flight too.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Just scored a classic reward upgrade #3 of 3. Seems like someone is smiling on me as two were BNE - LAX return as bronze and tomorrow is BNE - NRT as silver.

Very much looking forward to the J product on the A330 as my previous two J flights were on the older 747.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Well, no upgrade on the return QF322. I was unsurprised as the QF code had been showing J0 for about 2 weeks but the LA code had D3 so was wondering whether they reallocated capacity between themselves. Maybe not.

Managed to get a Space+ seat though. The extra 2 inches of legroom really makes a difference and the addition of a shadow made for a relatively pleasant flight (for Y). 9 across is very tight though and I don't think it would have been very comfortable if it was a full load. I kept getting hit in the shoulder as it is.

Legroom shown below (I'm 6ft2)

Our return flight on QF52 SIN-BRIS on Saturday was also upgraded!! Found out at T-26. You were all correct about our mindset now - my husband whispered to me: "we must never go back!!" He was so excited when the second upgrade came through and it really made our 'second honeymoon' without the kids that much more special. We got the PJS this time as it was an overnight flight. Just an amazing experience for us. I feel he may be inspired to travel more often ... maybe we won't be Bronze for long!! (But we need to boost up our points balance again now ... )

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

I was lucky with 4 out of 4 points upgrades and one opup in November:

QF27 4/11 Sydney to Santiago Y -> J
Latam JJ8020 11/11 Rio to Santiago Y -> J (opup)
QF28 11/11 Santiago to Sydney Y -> J
QF1 Sydney to London 18/11 Y (sale fare) -> J
QF2 London to Sydney 26/11 Y (sale fare) -> PE (absolutely hated the seat though - 24J)

Also a BA flight from Geneva to London 26/11 was the emptiest flight I've ever been on

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

This is the first time that I request upgrade on a flight, I am only a bronze member, so not sure what to expect...

My wife, myself and our 6 months old baby will be flying from HK back to Melbourne on 4/1 on QF30, I requested upgrade to business, what are our chances?

Cheers!

Quite low, probably (without looking at the loadings of that flight). All the P1, CL, WP, SG and PS travellers will be ahead of you and the NB travellers flying solo. You're better to ask about this here: Flight Availability/Loadings & Upgrade Probability Help Desk

In that thread you can get information about the current loading of the flight.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

I scored upgrades on QF11 on 25/10 (Tuesday, so 747) Y+ to J and QF74 on 6/11 (4 class as 3 class 747), also Y+ to J.

The QF11 UG came through a T-60, QF74 at about T-24.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

After 8 weeks of flying BNE-CNS-BNE I've decided to splurge on this years last weekly commute. Bingo! both flights confirmed .... happy days.
