QF to Europe returns to the Kangaroo Route (via SIN)

Personally I would not find the route (ADL-PER-LHR) appealing for a number of reasons (and yes, F is one of them, but it's not top off the list).. I'd much rather go via MEL-SIN, but for some customers it would be a viable (and slightly quicker) journey to go via PER if you're in ADL let alone WA cities.

And Adelaide finally wins, a new one stop service on QF Metal to London ;)

This seems to have just been completely missed by many or deliberately ignored. Sydney Melbourne Adelaide and Brisbane all have qf metal one stop to London with these new arrangements... Perth has direct or via Singapore. It's a win

Sydney and Melbourne already had one-stop QF metal to London before the change. Brisbane and Adelaide gained one-stop on QF metal because of the new PER-LHR route. Nothing really changed by relocating DXB to SIN.
 
Just finished the marathon read of all 46 pages.

Pushka & Co in South Oz - still feel for you all on no QF metal. There is the option of Jetstar ADL-DPS Bali for a holiday and then saunter on to SIN (lots of SCs available to cushion the blow of the no QF). :cool:

Melbourne people are not happy with SIN Lounge (but most weren't happy with DXB which I actually thought was tops). Haven't found a bad EK lounge yet and always use them over QF if I can).

Sydney people are the same regarding SIN lounge.

Being happily retired to Bali as my base, and stretching my spending to travel as much as possible (4th summer trip to Europe this week), I am not part of the pointy end 0.5% who make up ??% of the revenue.

My business paid perks are behind me, so I book bargains when they pop up on the routes timings and connections I want. As long as I make Gold each year, I don't care who I fly with.

Personally, I will either fly on to SIN, KL, HXG, DXB or even Doha (haven't done that one yet) for my 2nd leg.

I will do DPS-PER-LHR if the price is right and I can arrange a few days back in my old home town annoying my adult kids (borrow their cars, empty the pantry, drink their booze and make sure I leave the bedroom I borrow in a mess).


My question is how many of the WA, SA & VIC people will actually use the ??-PER-LHR flights? No one on here has actually said they will.

I would only do ADL PER LHR in J - no way in economy - if the stars aligned and it was QF metal all the way then maybe. The ability to upgrade from a paid PE to J would be need to be considered

It isn't a desired route for me either and nor will any non stop route over 13 hours as that's just too long in the air for me regardless of metal. But the ability to request points upgrade is a positive. Will just stick with EK into Europe and Eastern states to Asia or US. Or maybe AirNZ - direct out of Adelaide and in October the use of the larger plane.

Lucky you ChrisDPom living in Bali. We are off there in November flying into DPS on Qantas via Sydney.

The Qantas SYD-DPS flight is not bad (so glad they brought it back after all these years).

One thing I would like to see now is Qantas offering more options into Asia from the UK.

At present if booking LHR to Asia, you only options are SIN and a number of Thai locations.

I presume the limited Asian destinations are part of some no-compete agreement with other OW airlines or EK.:confused:


Considering how much cheaper their prices are for returns from LHR instead of from Oz-LHR, it would be great for some of us who book a number of flights well in advance. I know my dates for UK visits (M & D's birthdays, other events, etc), so often book 3 trips at a time.

QF have clearly flagged F is not a priority and the fact that other airlines are either eliminating or downsizing their F offerings (or cabins) proves that actual revenue First demand is clearly on the decline. Sure, there will always be those well heeled, company CEO's, celebs etc who will only ever fly F, but honestly it's a small small number.

I imagine if you polled even the more higher end group of AFF members as to who actually purchases revenue F vs awards/upgrades you'd still find the vast majority fit into the later category.

This is why most airlines have invested in better J produces (look at the QR JSuite, new SQ J, even United Polaris's new suite etc) and PE, which reflects where the demand and money is.

Don't get me wrong here. I'd love the chance to have an F product to use on every route I fly from SYD-ARM to MEL-LHR, but it's just not realistic. Even the ME3 are pulling back on F cabins, service and amenities...

At any rate, if you're an "average" customer of QF's in ADL, chances are you're looking for the quickest connection with the least hassle free flight to go to LHR(in this instance).. vast majority in Y, quite a few looking to splurge up to PE and some in J (I'm not including paid business travel in this which there will always be a certain demand for - but even business travel policies these days more and more are stipulating Y or PE on longer hauls).

Your true F customer from ADL can still get that product by connecting in MEL or SYD which is not massively out of the way, and given ADL never had F service(on QF) out of it anyway there's no real change to this situation.. for ADL J customers, they now have multiple options, including PER, to head over there. T

he other option is, of course, to take EK from ADL via DXB and voila you STILL have one stop to LHR. Your revenue F passenger doesn't care about upgrades and probably prefers the EK product anyway (bar, shower, etc) so pax still have that option.

Yes, from the point of view of someone wanting to upgrade on QF metal nothing really changes from the current situation because it's still a connection in MEL or SYD... the addition of PER is a net positive.

I just think some people can lose perspective here a little bit in terms of the overall picture of the way air travel is, and going. Aircraft like the 787 and A350(which QR uses to ADL of course) open up these routes and provide more options for the general traveling public. That actually does include those in Y and PE as well as J who make up the numbers. Today UA has announced IAH-SYD in the 787-9 - a 17.5 hour journey with no F cabin... QF may launche BNE-SFO or BNE-ORD - routes unthinkable 10 years ago yet now really possible and these open up all kinds of opportunities.

Those that want to upgrade to F will put up with connections if it's that important to them. The vast majority of flyers in ANY cabin go on 2 simple priorities: Price and Schedule.

If the domestic sectors are long and on the 73H, then that rules out those connections as viable options IMHO.

Currently, the flights between BNE and PER v.v. that connect with QF9/10 are both 73H services. Who would want to fly more than 5 hours in a 73H at anytime but to do it before/after a ~16 hour flight is just asking for trouble...
