Bestflights lets me make a QF booking SYD-CTS with JL being used for the second sector, ex HND. I think the cost was the same as SYD-NRT.
The QF website (Red e-Deal), however, only recognises NRT. (On previous trips I have purchased a JAL airpass for NRT-CTS leg because of this).
Is it likely that QF would ticket direct to CTS (do I need to speak to a CSO?)
I would also do a Tokyo stopover on the return (also OK with Bestflights).
It just seems a little easier through the online agent.

I found a good JAL Y+ deal on Best Flights CBR-CTS last week then got Flight Centre to price beat it and also got a $20 voucher. The FC agent I deal with is professional and provides excellent service. Have you thought of pricing thru them?

The JAL flight is a daytime flight with same day connection from NRT to CTS thus saving that trek (and extra yen) over to Haneda! QF is a red eye flight.

Of course both airlines only have overnight flights on the way back to SYD:shock:

Thanks for the FC option. I did see the JAL Y+ pricing but I think it finished on 30 June.
I haven't discounted the JAL option just yet - flown with them a number of times.
I might look at the option of Y over and Y+ return. Current reviews seem to show their food service has taken a dive. With 16,000 staff to be let go, service levels may drop also into next year.
Also, Mrs B wants to maximise her FF points - on JAL she thinks we would only get about 50% as to QF.

If you are going from HND-CTS, try and get the Y8000 upgrade to First (or Y1000 to Bus)

Well worth it

Totally agree, especially when the J SCs post.

Do they offer this from/to NRT or only HND?

Don't know but asking politely at the check in counter can be worthwhile.

Thanks all. Have done the J upgrade (be nice if the First upgrade got lounge access - but the seat will do).
Thanks for the QFF link Fifa - very helpful.
