I've searched here (I suspect this has been posted but I couldn't find it), and at QF website (if the info is there then I missed it), but for how long does an attained status last?

eg. At QF Website it says 'at least 12 months', which obviously *might* include a period longer than 12 months.

So if my QFF membership anniversary is 31st May (which it is), and I earned, say, Platinum status in July 2008, how long does that status remain before review/slide? Just 12 months from attaining it (ie. July 2009), or until my QFF anniversary date in May 2010? Or somewhere in between?

This may be the first of a number of questions re an ATW I am tentatively planning for mid-2008.

TIA
Chris

In you example, MAY 2010.

It's the remainder of your current "year" and your entire next "year".

Thanks serfty, for your prompt reply. Will be of great assistance in my planning.

I have a number of things to consider and decisions to make re this planned trip, which is really only at embryonic stage at the moment. The only firm requirement - read 'excuse' - for the trip is to be in Rio de Janeiro from around 21st - 30th May 2008. The rest is whatever I wish to make of it.

And don't forget the Qantas "Soft Slide" or "Comps" that will mean at worst you will be Gold from May 2010 - May 2011, and at best retain your status.

(These statements are of course being made in the assumption that Qantas keeps the rules the way there are now... as for if they will or not - not really sure!)

I'm not sure that answer is correct... I am sure that your status lasts 12 months only, your join date has nothing to do with status (my join date is Jan yet my roll over for status is Nov 01). I achieved Platinum status in Oct (many years ago) therefore, Nov the next year is the roll over.... and trust me, Nov 01 can sometimes create unnecessary travel to get them last few status credits! (usually Qantas will help you keep Platinum tho by extending their "friendship" by allowing a longer earn period)

Don't plan for getting longer than 12 months - you will be disappointed!

As a point of interest, I sat next to a Qantas 747 Capitan tonight from Mel to Syd. He made a very interesting point, one we should all think about… his comment was- quote “Qantas will be lucky to survive a few years if taken over – the running cost is presently $550M deficit, once taken over, this cost will exceed $1B per year.” He has been with Qantas for 22 years – worthy of listening to…

The answer was correct

Consider a member whose year runs from 1Jan -31Dec

He currently has Bronze Membership. Currently he is accruing Status Credits which count towards 2008 status

In March, he reaches 350SCs which is enough to get him Silver status for 2008. QFF immediately elevates him to that status rather than wait until January 1

In April, he reaches 700SCs, and so has met the Gold requirement for 2008. He is immediately elevated to Gold status and any QP membership he has is suspended

In July, he reaches 1400SCs, so has met the requirements for Platinum for 2008 and immediately is awarded Platinum status, so will have Platinum status for at least 17 months

Any other SCs earned during 2007 will count towards lifetime status and towards receiving a Partner Gold membership should 2100SCs be earned in 2007

On 1st Jan 2008, the SC count resets and he then starts earning points to renew status for 2009 membership year. Should he fail to reach the requalifying mark, then he will be dropped one status level

The membership expiry point is, iirc, normally the month of joining , so you will tend to get 12 and a bit months in the 1st year, so if you are quick, you can actually get over 24 months Platinum status. ( Join on Dec 3 and have a membership year that ends on Dec31, attain Platinum by Dec 20 and have 2 years and 11 days of Platinum )

Just to concur with this. My membership period runs to 30 Sep. I qualified for gold in Aug 06. I will remain gold until 30 Sep 07 - 14 months in total (qualified for gold on 5 Aug).

If i do the travel I plan to do this year and decide to put points into QF to attain WP I should get that in about July - now that's not the best planning a s I only get 15 Months of WP - but at least I am QP member until Sep 2009.

Agreed. Your status year always is linked to membership year (ie date of joining), although of course you can go up (or requal) earlier.

This is a difference to some other programs (eg NZ Airpoints) where your status year resets upon attaining a higher status. For some the QFF way suits and for others the Airpoints way suits.

My answer is correct; and it's reinforced by personal experience. Some years ago, I attained a status level in March; my "year" ends in October and the Expiry date on the new pretty coloured card was October the following year.

The web site is actually quite vague on this (surprisingly):
19.1.6 Membership status levels are valid for a minimum of one year. After that time, retention or attainment of a status level is dependent upon the number of Status Credits earned.
If you attain a status level in the last month of your "year" you will have the new status until that month next Year; i.e. just over 12 months. If you attain a status in the first month of your "year" you will have that status for a liitle more than another 23 months.

This is similar to other programs isnt it? The AA one works on the same principles - except everyone's membership year is December.

Many USA-based programs (most??) operate on a calendar year basis.

Hmmm.... My membership year ends May 31. If I happen to earn Platinum status in June 2007 then I will have that status until May 2009, which is 23 months.

In theory you can have your new status for up to 24 months, less a day or 2, depending on your qualification and membership renewal date.

I think, if status is earned in a normal BIS manner, then effectively yes, but with calendar year/qualification year taken into account.

AA elite status year runs from 1st Mar current year till 28th Feb next year. But 'qualification' year runs from 1st Jan till 31st Dec. So, if you earn Platinum on, say, 1st Jan 2007, I would expect plat status to last till 28th Feb 2009.
But if plat is earned on 31st Dec 2007, then it would still expire on 28th Feb 2009. I think.

But via challenge is different. If challenge commences in first half of year (eg. 1st Jan or 16th Jun) then it only lasts till Feb 28th of the following year. If commenced in second half of year (eg. 1st Jul or 16th Dec) then it lasts till 28th Feb of the following year plus one (eg. earned commencing 1st Jul 2007, latst until 28th Feb 2009).

I think that's right, but will happily stand corrected. :)

Yes, that pretty much describes it. AA status always expires on the last day of Feb.
