Welcome to the forums jezza888. I suggest you search for flights originating out of LAS, eg LAS-ORD-MIA-SJU is pretty popular, can be had for about $750 US in First/Business and earn c. 600 SCs.

Just had a look on AA.com, appears that LAS-ORD-MIA-SJU can't be done in a day as the earliest ORD-MIA arrives in MIA after the latest MIA-SJU departs.
That is also (120+120+60 = 300) SCs each way.

Meaning it's closer to $1500. The good status runs can be found, but you need to look. They're not published on forums like this for a reason; they vanish reaaaally quickly when they're made public!

That may be true. But there are better options between LAS and SJU in one day, earning 360 SCs for AU$368 (one way). I'm happy to provide details in a PM.

I've never quite understood why that is. Is that because they're somehow a "mistake"? If they're valid routings what does it matter if people know about them?

I don't know the details of the inner workings of airlines, but I suspect that they have people whose jobs are to calculate how much money the airline is making on each route, or perhaps each sector. If enough people book these kinds of fares, the yield on the route will go down, and red flags may be raised. Then someone will find out that it's because of all the discount F travel, and decide to withdraw the fares.

So the fares aren't themselves mistakes (I assume someone in marketing decides on them), but when the beancounters see the effect of them, they get cancelled (or the price increased).
