A little annoyed last night. Flew on a full fare J ticket Perth-BNE yesterday in a full J cabin. Had an off duty pilot with his 19 month old toddler on his lap next to me in row 1. He was nice as hell, his girl was charming and it didn't work out too bad - nevertheless what are QF doing giving a premium seat next to a full fare customer to someone with a toddler on their lap?

Are you serious ? He has as much right to travel , staff travel or not . What if it wasn't a staffer & someone who had paid for a J seat with a toddler . Would you still be complaining ?

Qantas staff employment conditions. I guess you can say it's part of their pay.

Hear, hear.

Whats the issue? Would it have been an issue if the person next to you was on a full fare as well?

You stated it didn't work out too bad, so why did it cause annoyance?

How do you know he was on staff travell and wasn't a full paying passenger himself?

You select row one (or any bassinet row) and you run the risk of either being moved or sitting next to a baby.

Not relevant who is travelling there with their child. The airline chooses that not you.

Well, there are alternatives - VA staff are strictly prohibited from J ;).

Only on Domestic, their international AFAIK, anyone that is able to get staff travel with them can use J, unlike QF where most staff have to be in the company for 7+ years first.

I guess the annoyance is that you sit down and find a toddler next to you and then think your flight will be ruined.

It is a long bow and a carp attitude in my mind. Choosing to be next to the bassinet you are choosing to take a risk - sometimes it pays off, sometimes it doesn't.

Can't believe I read this thread and wasted my time. It would have been more productive playing Fruit Ninja or Angry Birds.

If one is too precious, skip commercial .... and fly private.

I totally agree - its not the staff member the issue more the young one.
Row 1 is a bassinet row as you state so it is the risk. It has been discussed as nauseam on here before so that's all I will say.

Cannot see how it would be different to a pax on an award?? You bought a seat, not a cabin of exclusions, and frankly I think Qantas should be applauded for encouraging family bonding or making it easier for staff to be with family when dead heading/ positioning etc etc.

Perhaps QF should fill the whole cabin with staff travellers, redemptions and op-ups? Then nobody would have to sit next to a full fare J pax.

As the owner of a 2 year old who does plenty of flights you'd be surprised how far a smile can go from fellow pax in keeping the trip interesting for little one.

How much did you pay...? Did you get miles for the purchase? :p

What is this "full fare paying J pax" that the OP speaks about? ;)

Seriously, WGAF.

Last year we took our twin toddlers MEL-CNS via SYD and BV. Half the plane was QF staff and kids.

I have some great perks in my job, why moan about somebody elses?
