QF SG Priority Baggage?

Works internationally when they use the proper Business Tags. Also works domestically on Virgin with the proper tags on 737s.

I don't bother using my gold smart tags anymore and just get a wrapper, but even they end up mid-way through the pack.

My US trips are usually 2-3 weeks in duration. HLO is cutting it a bit fine :)

Trips of that duration do rule it out, unless you are willing to take the hotel laundry bills on the chin (and I'm sure your fellow pax thank you for consideration of not 'deodorant washing' lol).

bBesides, when in the US I usually check everything besides a very small messenger bag with my iPad and Macbook Air so I don't need to rush for bin space.

Domestic US travel is a different kettle of fish (notwithstanding it's still International to here, but I meant on country to country flights, with proper long-haul wide body fitout of cabin). I'm not a fan of massive carry-on on these flights, despite the larger bins used in the USA.

But yes, the window storage bins are awesome (although the bin at 5B/5J on the 744 refurb is also excellent)! It was one thing I missed when I flew NZ on my last US trip.

Storage bins on the A380 and it's larger toilets are reasons why I favour A380 flights - the Emirates F bathrooms on A380 are almost as big as actual bathrooms on the ground! (I do however consider the showers just a gimmick - the shower pressure being weak, and the time limit, conspiring to negate any real benefit).

We received priority lane and priority baggage on Sunday with QF on our long cut out of Sydney thru Melbourne to get to Perth. We had the best A330 too so it was like going to a dine in movie theatre without the popcorn.

On the QF web site about benefits of Gold it says: "Your checked bags will be tagged priority on Qantas flights where applicable, regardless of your class of travel"

NOTE that it says it will be TAGGED priority. It doesn't actually say that will make any difference.

Why do they bother with this charade?

SYD-MEL 25 May, MEL-BNE-CNS 29 May - using Gold electronic tags. Bag came off towards the end. Clearly a number of the people whose bags came off before mine were NOT priority customers,

CNS-SYD 30 May - printed baggage tag - again my bag came off towards the end.

My sense is that the old-style manual, coloured "Priority" tag often works, the printed "Priority" tag sometimes works, the electronic tag NEVER works.

Does Qantas have anything to say about this?

Generally, no they don't. After I had 3 flights in a row where it didn't work, I did put in a complaint and I received some points in compensation. Whether QF properly investigated and attempted to fix whatever went wrong, I don't know, but they did at least listen on this occasion.

They might listen but I don't believe they do much- Mr FM and I are both WP, often travelling J domestically and it is totally random as to how our bags come out. internationally it is a bit out of their control I would have thought, but they should get it right domestically, but it is the usual inconsistent service we know and love. TBH I am just grateful to see the bags come out and have given up worrying too much. Mr FM and I always discuss it when waiting for our bags, but it is more an amusing game of "I wonder what will happen this time"

Is it outside their control internationally?

Qantas might contract with a ground handling agent overseas, and should get their agent to enforce baggage loading appropriately.

If they can't enforce quality control at certain destinations why not put a note in the priority section saying which airports that is excluded? For example 'priority baggage cannot be controlled in JNB/CGK/wherever'. Priority baggage seems to work 99% of the time in asian cities where I fly CX. So Asia shouldn't be an issue for QF. (and that doesn't leave many other places for QF)

Considering your end and departure point was CNS, that may have something to do with it. Regional ports perform poorly with the QTags, and CNS is just pathetic when it comes to priority bags. Only ever had it work once coming off a flight in CNS and that was close to a year and a half ago.

I've pretty much given up all hope with priority luggage domestically - I don't think they've worked for me once this year. Internationally, it's worked great.

*A on the other hand - I don't think it's failed me once in the last 3 years!!

I know Emirates give J passengers priority. In December I flew between Christchurch-SYD-MEL with the second part of the leg being in QF J (737) and while my bag was one of the first out with Emirates, it was one of the last out with QF.

I am QF SG and was very surprised to actually receive priority baggage at JFK, GRU, BCN earlier this year. Failed us a at SYD though so seems that other *O airlines do better than QF.

Failed for me and family on SQ on my last trip 6 weeks ago flying into Singapore. Bags were dead last out plus one was missing!

Also failed for me about 2 years ago flying United into LA from the Caribbea, via Huston. Again towards the end, and the last flight was a 767 from IAH so should have been containerised. Plenty of connection time in IAH.

Well obviously it'll fail on SQ and UA if you're using your QF benefits. :P

Who said I was? I was flying business class in both cases.

That was just a tongue in cheek response, considering this is a thread about priority baggage when flying QF in the QF forum. I know you were responding to a comment on *A but I'm just having some fun, no harm intended.

If you have low expectations as to when your luggage will appear then that works really well. Actually I am always pleased when all our bags turn up.
The last time our baggage was missing was when Geoffrey Thomas the aviation writer had the same thing happen. Our bags went over to the international terminal by mistake.
