Hi team,

I never like doing new threads when you just know that this has been discussed before- but i've tried the last 15 mins looking for answers to this question, and couldn't find anything relating to SG.

Would someone quickly be able to outline the benefits of being a SG (Sapphire) on AA flights as I have a number of domestic flights coming up in the USA in April- SC run!

Thanks.

The first thing that comes to mind is Priority check-in and boarding. Second would be Admiral's Club admission. (AA members need a membership to get in unless on an international ticket on the day) No luggage fees is a maybe.

Let us know after you experience it.

Happy wandering

Fred

There is a free luggage allowance but I don't recall the amount. Another important one is the priority security line.

Yep. Also priority lanes/areas for security checks too. Don't under-estimate the value of this when flying AA in the USA, especially at busier airports like LAX. They refer to it as "Priority Access" and it is printed in bold on your boarding pass.

QF SG = oneworld Sapphire = Priority check-in at Business counters regardless of the class you're flying.
Frequent Flyer - About the Program - Benefits & Privileges

Also note that they seem to vigilantly police this. From what I have seen over the last week the non-status pax don't have any chance of sneaking through priority lines.

BTW, I think Qantas could do a much better job of implementing & policing this. AA has 2 boarding lanes for each flight which are very clearly marked and roped off (I think a lot of the time QF pax aren't actually aware that they've joined the wrong line - the signage isn't obvious). If there is only 1 staff member scanning boarding passes they will halt processing of non-status pax to deal with any priority pax first.

C'mon QF. Pick up your game!

To itemise/add to the responses:

For oneworld Sapphire travelling USA domestically on AA:
  • Two bags free luggage up to 50lb each (~23kg)
  • "Preferred" Seating preallocation
  • Priority Check-in
  • Priority Security lane
  • A/C Access with vouchers for "Premium" drinks
  • Priority Boarding (After First Class)

^^^^
Thanks to all who replied. Your help is much appreciated.

Does anyone know if non-status pax are on the same booking- are they still able to go through priority checkin, free baggage and priority screening. I presume the last one is a no as they won't have status indicated on their ticket?

Thanks for this useful information. Good to build up some knowledge in prep for my first USA trip at the end of the year. No doubt the priority security lane will come in very handy as will the luggage allowance. Hello shopping!
Can non status pax travelling on the same booking use the priority security lanes?

The answer to both questions is YES.

Regarding the Admirals Lounge, whilst access is a benefit for SG, the quality of the domestic lounges is very ordinary. Clean, yes. But other than a drink voucher you've got to pay for everything else.

QF lounges are streaks ahead.

You'll see something like this on your boarding pass:

Priority AAcces is worth its weight in gold (if you'll pardon the pun). Just be sure to board when they announce pre-boarding for OW Emerald and Sapphires that you're there to avoid the rush of the masses wheeling on their kitchen sinks.

If you don't have the 'FIRST' or 'PRIORITY AACCESS' on your boarding pass, chances are they will not be able to get access to the premium security queue. At LAX T4 there's someone policing it at the bottom of the escalator. Most other airports also staff the entrance to the queues and police it. On boarding you may be able to say 'they're travelling with me' and be waved through though.

The luggage allowance should be fine as long as you're on the same PNR. If not, some sweet talking at check-in may see you being let off without an issue.

And, in my experience, that's not an exaggeration!

So no snacks/newspapers etc.

Whats the point! :p

Actually you do get light snacks (such as nibble mix, crisps) and newspapers. PC's are available in most.

Also I have seens various things like fresh fruit, muffins, bagels.

MIA had breakfast cereals as well :)

MIA AC or MIA flagship?

MIA AC as FL was closed for renovations.

Although now that I think about it - perhaps that's why there was what may have been an "enhanced service" :)

Maybe you're right! Makes a nice change from eating barmix for breakfast :D
