Re: QF selling more "extra legroom" Y seats - 80A/K,71D & Dom. Exit

There was no suggestion of a charge and a 'would I like to proceed' step, so I assumed no fee was involved.

The fact that I then got a UPG rendered it all academic, but IIRC there was mention upthread about what would happen under such a circumstance and I think the conclusion was that you'd do your $25 (or whatever the charge was).

If you guys who are on the dom birds so much more frequently than me are struggling with this, no wonder I'm confused!

At least on international an upgrade means you lose the seat fee. I assume the same for domestic.

Re: QF selling more "extra legroom" Y seats - 80A/K,71D & Dom. Exit

Couldn't find this information in the few pages of this thread that I clicked through, but a WP friend of mine on Facebook went on a massive rant about the fact that all bulkhead seats on his 747 service are subject to the extra legroom fee too. If that is so then I would assume that it applies also to the A380 and is not limited to 80A 80K 71D and exit row seats.

Can anyone confirm this?

If that is indeed so then there is actually no incentive for me as a WP to fly QFi in Y anymore on the off chance that I find myself having to book into Y.

Thanks to an EF Seat Alert, I've just snared 23A BNE-PER on Wednesday - again with no charge.

Of course, I will be hoping for a repeat of today's PER-BNE UPG ;).

Row 43 on the refurbed 747 is definitely showing as extra legroom. Row 32 on the A380 however is not showing as extra legroom. Row 43 on the 747 has more legroom than row 32 on the A380.

I've already made the jump to CX for future Y bookings in light of this change.

The ball is now in your court QF!

You'd want to hope it's not one of the crummy Jetstar 330's coming back into QF. No room in row 23 in those, and no IFE for that matter. Been caught on those a few times lately. Go into the select seat page on QF - if it doesn't say exit row for row 23 then it's the crummy old Jetstar pig.

Correct. If I am not going to be able to pre-allocate bulkhead seats free of charge at time of booking then I am going with best fare of the day.

I consider this as another Platinum benefit diluted.

I hope you are aware of what they did to row 39 on the A333s...

this would only happen without charge if you already had another exit row seat booked in row 44/45...
As I did the same for per > syd this wed.

Indeed - fortunately CX is still free for OWEs to select exit rows

Was on BNE-PER recently and in Row 23. Bulkhead.

The staff were very apologetic, they dread being allocated these aircraft. Only overhead IFE, lots of rattles and bumps. They handed out papers and magazines to all passengers due to the state of the aircraft (that's what they told me). They mentioned that BNE-PER-BNE was seeing a lot of this aircraft type.

Worse than a Jetstar A320 I flew two weeks ago.

So if you see on the A220-200 seat map that Row 23 is not being charged, it could be the Bulkhead.

Not the case for me. I was in 27A and moved to 23A when it opened and there was no charge. But it all became superfluous as my UPG came through :D.

As I just posted, it didn't matter as my UPG came through. I had no interest in looking back so I have no idea whether it was an old JQ bird. But one thing the FAs did tell me was that they had a B737 flying the PER-BNE sector last week .

Re: QF selling more "extra legroom" Y seats - 80A/K,71D & Dom. Exit

I had 44B allocated for an upcoming flight to Brisbane, but changing one of the other seats in the itinerary then asks for $60.00 thanks but no thanks, I will go to the lounge in Perth and ask if 44B is still available.

If Qantas want to charge me $66 for a seat in an exit row, I might just go with Virgin where I can upgrade for 9,900 points.

Yuck!

I can't remember how long ago the last PER -> BNE flight was when I wasn't stuck on an ex-JQ plane; it must be at least half a dozen trips. But at least I haven't had a B737 yet, so I guess I should consider myself lucky! Still, I wish Qantas would refit those ex-JQ planes. They're really not nice.

Thankfully I always seem to get the better planes in the other direction.

mrpooky.

I would feel that 9,900 points are worth a lot more than $66, but each to their own, I guess.

Having messed around with mum international seat selected flights the mention of $60 may mean nothing. When changing her seats after already paying the fee, the seat selection fee is mentioned. But when going through to confirm the select it doesn't ask for payment as the previously paid fee is assigned as a credit against the new charge. Anyway, long story short, maybe they also recognise a credit for you if 44B was already selected.

I dare say a business class seat is also worth a lot more that an economy seat. The 9900 points is for an upgrade.

Re: QF selling more "extra legroom" Y seats - 80A/K,71D & Dom. Exit

Just tried to choose row 4 on a 737 CBR - MEL, only one seat in row 4 is occupied, but errors when I try to pick the empty ones.

Called Qantas, told me I can't take them because they are 'normally' reserved for special needs.

Flight is tommorrow....

Never heard that one before, maybe next step is to charge for them.
