QF seats in Y

I was on a UA flight SIN-NRT in C recently and my IFE was playing up (though not totally US).

I mentioned it to a FA and was given a "voucher" for 7,000 miles FF credit. The miles were credited to my MP account within a couple of days. UA looks after its 1K members.

And Qantas????
I was given $100 a few years ago in WHY on a QF flight SIN-MEL when the IFE was playing up. And then recently again in WHY on a QF flight SIN-SYD I was upgraded to business class 1/3 of the way into the flight when the IFE was playing up.

There have been a number of reports of business class passengers receiving $200 or $300 where the IFE has been playing up. Don't know how that compares to your 7,000 UA MP miles but I would that is pretty good compensation coming from Qantas....

Ahh the good old days! Just like when we were kids we would go to the park and you would always find someone you knew there. Take a football to kick around in the winter and a bat and ball to play cricket in the summer. These days there is hardly any social interraction between people as most are constantly glued to Facebook and MySpace and they call this social networking.

Hmmm....

In the 50's we used to go to the local dump and shoot rats. Just think how a group of 11 & 12 year-olds carrying slug guns and the occasional .22 would be received now :)

I was given a $300 Qantas voucher when the IFE was dead (not playing up - it was dead). I wasn't looking for compensation - I never am, I only want a longer-term solution.

However, I suspect Qantas do make a bit of an effort to resolve problems when they can, as well as offering compensation.

If you know the rego of the plane you're going on, or just flown on, you can often google it and find the history of ownership of the plane. One plane I recently did this for, was a QF 767 (3rd hand) which took its first flight in the US in 1988. So is it any wonder things start breaking down?

In order to fix the many problems with all these planes, they are required to be on the ground which means lost revenue. I think if the airlines think they can get away with it (as long as it doesn't involve major safety), they will turn a blind eye to all those niggling issues, esp in the current US market.

Having said that, I have also heard that there are a few IFE's not working in one of the brand NEW A380's.

If they are marketing long haul flights with entertainment systems on board, and you happen to get one that isn't working and you can't be moved to another seat - I'm sure you could ask for some sort of compensation by writing to their customer complaints area.

You might think that, but ...

Recently, SYD - SFO in Y (red E deal) PLUS exit row $$fee$$ and no AVOD. No room to move; it was a VERY long flight.

I reported it to "customer care" on my return and was told, your upgrade on the return (to Y+, in a J seat) was by way of compensation.

A fair exchange, I thought considering what I paid for the fare.

V happy BvT!

And Qantas????

I had a flight to PER last year from MEL on a A330. at the QP when i checked in with my daughter they said then the IFE wasn't working and gave us a $30 voucher each!.

My 6yo spent it on a couple of books, i bought 2 dozen Krispy Kreme donuts for the inlaws!!! I had my ipod so wasn't fussed

And to top it off they actually got most of it working again in the flight! lol!!

For those of us in Perth, an occasional box of Krispy Kreme's is welcomed!

Dam, gotta wait til August for my next hit :D
