Since QF stopped flying to Mumbai in May last year, there have been no Sale fares to India since even on the QF codeshares.
With the minimum Red e-deal return Economy fare always being around $1750+.
All of sudden in the last month I've noticed QF have introduced sale fares again to India around $1200 rtn just over a year after absence of no sale fares for more than 12 months.

Either they've realised that it is an important market after all or maybe that no-one wants to pay close to $1800 rtn for an economy flight QF to SIN then 9W codeshare to BOM or DEL. Especially when SQ, MH, CX.etc were only charging $1000-1300 rtn all this while with better timings.

Anyway just thought it was interesting that it coincided with AI introduction of MEL/SYD-DEL direct on the 787..

Wonder what the chances are of QF codesharing on the AI flights.....

Would be great - and allow some great circle Asia itinerarys.....

I'm headed to BLR in January and was pricing fares this morning. QF J: $11270. MH J: $3267. How can travelers justify QF given that kind of disparity?

Even then 9W into BOM/DEL is quite limited compared to the options available via MH and SQ. I picked up MH return to BLR from SYD for travel in Nov for $980 per adult.

They do it now with VN etc etc. I imagine a new AI 787 service may be quite ok - even good? Esp up the pointy end.

Unless AI have revamped their service as well, the shiny new aircraft will be insignificant.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Yikes how did you survive a 737 for almost 4 1/2 - 5 hours?

I haven't yet! November, and its listed as a 4hr flight...Am travelling with family including a 4yr old.

They don't take up *that* much space. These are the cheapest of cheap fare, not sure if they even earn any points. Will be interesting to see if any of the OWE benefits will apply on these flights.

I've done three SYD>KUL flights this year, but all in J, this will be my first time in Y with them for a long time.

...the same way people flying from Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane to Perth survive...

Not to be picky but then why have QF and VA mostly moved from 737's to A330's for MEL,SYD to PER if there wasn't demand for it? :) Anyway... Intl connecting legs are a lot different to a trans con domestic flight, for eg a 1 hour flight from MEL to SYD in Y no problems yet I did a 45 min KUL-SIN flight in MH J 737 and felt so cramped because I'd had done 2 long/med haul flights in the preceding 24hours.

Try weekends, at least half of services are 737, Saturday particularly.

Fair enough about international.

A new codeshare has appeared, QF3956 BOM-SIN dep 9:50am this is good news for people travelling out of BOM as previously the QF codeshare QF3950 made you wait in SIN for 12+hours before connecting to QF flights to MEL or SYD.etc.

Only downside is that this new codeshare is on a 737...
The existing codeshare QF3950 is still on an A330-200/300.

Qantas codesharing with AI into India would destroy the brand.

It was like when I was sitting in the MEL Flounge and told the waiter I was flying MEL-HKG-PVG, and he asked me why I didn't fly direct, whereupon I burst out laughing and observed it was operated by MU

And now there's talk that Jet Airways may fly direct to Australia too, interesting conundrum as Jet are partnering with Ethiad, but code share with QF also.

Interesting rumour! Here is the article for those interested: Jet in direct Indian route buzz

The few things I could see happening if this were to happen (In order of likelyness):
a) 9W and QF continue happily codesharing, due to their longstanding partnership and large-ish traffic feed in both directions.
b) 9W stops codesharing with QF, by order of EY there by having no QF code into India only interlines remain.
c) QF forced to resume direct flights to India, or risk totally losing any market share they have or potentially could have had.
d) QF finally get over their differences with MH or CX and codeshare to India via KUL or HKG.

I'd personally like to see c) happen, or at the very least d).

Time will tell if these rumours are true!
