Hi Everyone,
I've 'lurked' for a long time around here, but keen to get more active with you fantastic people!

Back in March the ACCC threw out the idea of a codeshare extension between SAA and QF, beyond this year.

As part of their submission, "Qantas had said that one of the airlines could pull off the route if the tie-up was not allowed to continue."

If I remember correctly, SYD-JNB is one of Qantas' more profitable routes. Is there any update as to what will happen from 2013 onwards? Will the Emirates codeshare change this at all? It's a long way to JNB via DXB

Hopefully no further cuts to QFi!

Keen to hear your thoughts,

Mike

Back in March the ACCC threw out the idea of a codeshare extension between SAA and QF, beyond this year.

It was the IASC that raised concerns and extended the codeshare authorisation only to the end of this year, not the ACCC.

There are currently further submissions to the IASC to extend the codeshare beyond the end of the year. So, it is making its way through that process.

Its been approved for another two years:

Qantas has won approval from regulators for its code-share alliance with South African Airways on flights between Australia and Johannesburg to be extended for another two years.
However, the ruling from the International Air Services Commission falls short of Qantas's request for the alliance with South Africa's flag carrier to be approved until March 2016.
As part of the conditions of the approval, the two airlines will have to operate at least 13 flights a week between Australia and South Africa.
