    Folks,

while toying around with the OneWorld desktop timetable I noted that a number of JAL operated flights are given as codeshare options for QF flights (eg QF 374 KIX to BNE). Now even though JAL have not yet formally joined OneWorld and they are not listed as a QF partner airline, I would make the rash assumption from this that QF FF points can be earned for codeshare flights on JAL metal. So this begs the question, are some non-codeshare JAL numbered flights already eligible for earning QF points (and maybe even Status Credits) prior to formally joining One World? It's a lot cheaper to fly JAL to Europe that QF/BA at the moment!

You earn QF FF points and SCs on all QF coded flights, regardless of operator, so long as you purchase an eligible fare. It does not matter whether the operator is a OneWorld airline or not. This has been the case with non-OneWorld operated QF flights with SAA, AS, JAL etc for some time.

You will not get QF FF points and SCs on JL coded flights until they officially become part of OneWorld. You can earn AAdvantage miles (but not q-points) on JL flights now.

Thanks for that - I was just surprised to see JAL metal listed in the OneWorld desktop timetable. I thought the codeshares for one airline were not traditionally included in that because other OneWorld partners did not allow earning on them. It was this that made me wonder if some "preemptive" OneWorld status had happened. I have previously flown on non-QF Oneworld partner codeshares and earned nothing because the codeshare partner was not OneWorld.

    Cheers

With codeshares you can generally earn in the program of the coded airline, but generally not in the programs of their partners unless it is operated by an alliance member as well.

I think the JL operated AA codeshares (such as NRT-JFK) have been in the OneWorld timetable for a while, even though they will only earn AA miles and nothing else.

The OneWorld timetable also shows QF codeshares operated by PX, TN, SAA, AS and probably other non-OneWorld airlines.

As Qantas stopped flying some of the routes my guess is even though JAL is not oneworld they were available as QF code share flights to make sure people had choice.

On the QF codeshare flights i have flown on with JAL i have been very happy with the service. Better beer if nothing else :)
