I seem to regularly get 2A as my auto preference seat on Q400 flights (about half the flights I take), and it's a good seat, so I usually keep it.

However, the QF system seems to think 2A/B are exit row seats (I presume because 2C/D are). They're not.
OLCI won't provide boarding passes - it just gives me the check-in confirmation sheet.

For some reason this really annoys me (I'm not entirely sure why). I've provided feedback twice, but haven't had any response.

Generally the airlines considers seats on both sides of the plane as exit seats when they are in the same row as an exit, even if there is only an exit on one side. For example, Virgin considers 1D/F an exit and won't let children sit there, even though only 1A/C are really at the exit door.

I've experienced the same. I did ask once (in jest) whether it would be a race between me and the FA to open the main door from 2A - stern look was the response.

I've OLCI'd and Mobile Checked-in to exit rows on Q400s a bunch of times - about 3 months ago an additional screen came up in both asking me to confirm my ability to perform the emergency exit row tasks, after accepting I was able to print my boarding pass (or have it sms'd to me in the case of mobile). As an aside, I never print it anymore - my FF card is far easier than a piece of paper.

Can't print OLCI exit row BPs anymore. Can't do post check-in either, says go see a human. QF exit row BPs must be human issued.

I printed them last week!

A QF exit row OLCI BP? I fly exit rows all the time. Never for say the last 6 months have I been able to print a OLCI exit row BP or do pole NGCI. Something must have changed?

Yep - QF exit row OLCI BP. Domestic only though - never had one come up for intl.

You must be doing it differently to me then, because I haven't been able to print a Q400 seat 2A boarding pass for at least a year, including yesterday.

Nor have I, including Saturday afternoon. Allocated 2D (whatever the right aisle is) and was given the usual "This is not a boarding pass - you or someone travelling with you requires assistance, please give this useless piece of paper to someone at the airport".

I usually see it as a good thing. Bits of paper from my printer either end up mixed with my other stuff or ripped up in the side pocket of my bag. I'm more likely to preserve the solid boarding pass in the 45 minutes from its collection to its use.

Same problem here, seems to be a flaw in the seating map somewhere.

My next Q400 flight is on Tuesday week - I'll take a screen shot so i'm not labelled a liar!!!

Hehe, I'm definitely not calling you a liar .... but I can't get a boarding pass at OLCI for seat 2A on a Q400. I haven't tried any other exit row seats. At OLCI I usually either accept 2A that's usually preassigned for me, or change to 3D if I particularly want a boarding pass in my hand before I get to the airport.

Besides, it's a bit off topic from my original point - Seats 2A/B on a Q400 aren't exit row seats. Qantas, please change your seat maps! :)

I have been flying into DPO over the last 2 years.Often allocated row 2 and in that time have never been able to get a BP for this row.I usually switch to 3C.

Are you sure that you are talking about OLCI (Online Check in) i.e. checking in via the web. My experience is the same as the OP if you online check in then go to the airport and go to print your boarding pass from the next gen kiosk it will tell you to go to the service desk.

However if you check in first at the next gen kiosk it will ask you the question and then print the board pass without having to go to the service desk.

Although if you are at an airport with the older kiosks it will print the slip and you have to go to a check in agent.

Yep - OLCI (web or mobile). I can't remember the last time I checked-in at a kiosk.

It also seems to think 3D (window) meets my "forward aisle" preference on a Q400. I was auto-allocated that twice in a row this month - although the second time I caught it and changed it.

I'm never auto-allocated the exit on a Q400 (although seem to get it consistently on a 300). Not sure what the go is there.

Okay - as promised, two screenshots below taken from mobile OLCI.

1. The Exit Row Requirements step of the process.
2. The mobile boarding pass.

Mobile check in and Online check in are 2 different products .

Mobile check in was enhanced in July to allow exit row check in ...

Online check in was not enhanced and you cannot get a boarding pass .... you get the confirmation page

Not technically correct, there is a way to get a BP using OLCI when in an exit row, its a bug that has been reported.
