Qf Platinum Status Renewal

Just got my first early renewal card (2650 SCs YTD) for a Sep 30 renewal date...

What I found amusing was the list of benefits - including F lounge access. Surely anyone flying enough to get to WP must know of these benefits?

You'd be surprised....

They should be able to get you to sign something that says you’ll credit to them then, and if you don’t, forfeiture of your account, along with any lifetime status. Seems fairly simple to me, but yeah, I guess they can’t do that for whatever reason.

Why go to all that hassle? And the negative PR that will come from such heavy-handed tactics/language?

Surely it's just easier for QANTAS to wait for you to actually earn the status. It's the same boat that everyone else is in.

True, but if you know you have a very frequent traveller that is in the top echelons of your FFP and their forward bookings show them to be crediting to you, and re-qualifying with you… and they (and you - as a QF staff member) know that they might not get the full benefit of their status on their travels, why wouldn’t you send a card, or make an agreement if you did.

It stinks of the worst customer service. You’re at the top, but we still don’t trust you. So why should we stay loyal?

Anyway, I realise such an agreement couldn’t be made, but I think it just shows how pathetically they treat people that are loyal and fly with them.

That is all.

True Sam,
But there is always 2 sides to the coin. Some people are blessed with being top tier in multiple programs/alliance. I have read on Flyertalk a few people who are top tier in Star, OW and ST, at the one time. But, since we are talking about OW in this instance, they could credit to AA/CX when flying on QF and also being a QF WP.

A rule l have learned over the years and l'll give it to you Sam (for free...lol) - Don't trust anyone.

It amazes me quite often how many people simply go along in their own little oblivious world.

I'm not entirely sure international J awards really do need to be booked 330 days out. AS WP I have always found availability within 2 weeks of my travel dates. In cases where I need exact dates the Premium line has always been able to open up availability on request + or - 48 hours.

I think most of the new members may well be bronze and find it difficult to redeem points, however elite members will enjoy the benefit of greater availability. Of late I've manged to see lots of availability in F which, I believe, used to be much, much harder.

I think that unfortunately you'll see less of this happening due to ASAs.

On the subject of comp extensions, I think I just got one (or at least in the last week or so).

I'm still not sure how this works though. I read in another thread that they look back over the last 3 years activity and base their decision on that. If so, that would explain it, as my SC "earn" for the previous 3 years has been 1940, 3440, and 3890. Lucky for me that they stop at 3 years, because for 2004/05 and 2005/06 I was stuck in BNE and hardly travelled at all - but I was comped to WP both years (and this was only after one year at WP - which I just made).

I got the "new" WP card a couple of weeks ago, and it has an expiry of Sep 2010, so I won't get too excited until I see another card with 2011 printed on it.

No. Don't listen to speculation. Just accept it. There is no logic behind the decision making process. It is pure luck.

I have been comped Platinum status 3 years in a row and I only just make it every year including the first year when I had exactly 1400 SCs 2 days before my reassessment date.

My first year was like that too. In fact, I was 3 days from the end of the year, and 15 SC short - so I grabbed the cheapest return flight to ADL that I could find. I missed out on WP a couple of years previously because a work trip to KGI got pushed out by a couple of weeks - so no way was I missing out again.

That first year was a tough one - all dom Y / discount Y, with one discount Y return PER-JNB.

And I get ~800 SCs per year from discount economy and it is all self-funded. That is a proud achievement.

(Seriously hoping no one finds the above statement offensive!)

Ditto - only just made it one year even with the bonus 50 credits:oops:

Nothing offensive there JohnK! Be proud. That is a true FF. If that was in J, it would be around the 3200SC (x4). I was in a similar position a few years ago, all discount whY, got around 550SC. And l was still only Silver and around 5k later?

Thanks to AFF and it's members, l am now a WP for a fraction of the cost l spent only getting 550SC. This site is a "gold mine" of info. I am pretty sure that QF reads this site, no 2-ways about it.

My anniversary is the 31st of October and after a good start to my status year I went into a bit of a dwahl and got stuck on 470 SCs. After 2 years in a row at SG I was expecting a please explain letter from Qantas in the mail and was mentally making up my story, but ... no letter. It wasn't looking good!

I have a few trips on the drawing board but at best I will still be 50 short of re-qualifying Gold, so I was steeling myself for the drop back to Silver and re-activation of my QC membership. Not the end of the world and certainly no reason to book an ego-centric status run.

And then ... I looked at my status page today and found this :-

Status reassessment will occur: 31 Oct 2011

So I have received an unannounced extension it would seem, or will a letter about this generosity from Qantas be sent when I don't make the SCs by my anniversary?

Given it's about 6 weeks out, I'd say you've been comped.

This site is a "gold mine" of info. I am pretty sure that QF reads this site, no 2-ways about it.

And if they do, while they might see more elite levels earned for less earn, I’m sure they’re more than happy you’re a Platinum as it gives a certain amount of brand loyalty. You’d certainly be more likely in their eyes to fly with them, whereas if you were still stuck in a rut earning 550SC for $5k, you might have decided to fly someone else, or not choose QF as much.

Either way, while the info here gives shortcuts, I can’t imagine they’d be in a better spot if it wasn’t here.

Congrats!

You have been given complimentary Gold status for another 12 months. Don't know when you last looked at your status page but this normally happens ~8 weeks from reassessment date and is what is commonly referred to as being comped status. There is no hard and fast rule who gets it, why and how often.

FWIW I have been comped Platinum 3 years in a row ~8 before reassessment date but I have managed to make the necessary SCs required each time.
