QF Platinum Recognition on flights

Does "true domestic" imply Perth is really another country?
Plenty of Sandgropers would like it to be!
Be that as it may, if we were (will never happen), there would hopefully be more competition to QF on the transcon flights, which is the one thing that would make QF up their game!

Was greeted on QF127. Interesting rare moment where I was greeted out of SYD.

I got recognition for the first time from the wonderful cabin manager. She came by several times to check on me and actually stayed for a conversation also! As it was my first time, I really appreciated and enjoyed it.

I sent in a full compliment email (via QF website) acknowledging the cabin manager. Got a reply back from QF thanking me for the words and that it would be passed along.

I really hope I will run into the same cabin manager again. She has a genuine love for her job even after flying for over 20+ years!

No joy on QF1574 out of Melbourne where both my wife and I, both WP, were ignored unlike QF8 a few weeks ago where the purser Julie was just superb

It is a shame how rare those people are at Qantas, but l can imagine it is also hard to remain constantly upbeat after all those years!!

Today on QF3 got greeted at my seat by name and had a chat about my travel plans. Nice guy! Makes up for poor experience at first lounge.

Domestic is a whole different game. On International it's common but not domestic.
It's interesting, back when I earned WP from 2009-2020 or so, I would often get special greetings or access to drinks during service when others wouldn't (along with other WP's I guess). These days the membership is perhaps too swollen to be too personalised domestic. I'm WP currently courtesy of my mother getting to P1 and I honestly get more attention when travelling with my kids than when travelling alone as a WP.

All that said though, I get even less attention on VA and after a rather unfortunate incident regarding the pax next to me vomiting on me - and getting no sympathy or points or assistance from VA - I wont be flying them again unless in J and even then only sparingly.

Flew QF25 Y and got a personal greeting by the CSM Adam. Was good for galley chat approximately midflight when nearly everyone was asleep, but also checked in a few times to ask if there was anything he could get me. I was going light on the drink that flight, but one time he got me a flat white from J.

Also given J amenity kit and PJs, as well as asked for meal preference in advance and served meal first up alongside SPMLs.

Very impressive!

QF24 last night - not even a ‘welcome back’ on boarding the aircraft. I think the CSM served me a couple of times in J but didn’t actually introduce himself as such. Didn’t see him interacting with anyone, really.

Glorious inconsistency summed up on my trip to the UK last week:
QF1 SYD-SIN in J - cursory welcome and acknowledgement of status. I was in the last row of J so understandable that CSM's enthusiasm for greetings had waned a bit by the end
QF1 SIN-LHR in PE - no acknowledgment or recognition of status
QF2 LHR-SIN in PE - personal greeting, offer of drink before dinner, repeat acknowledgment during dinner service, hand written thank you card from the crew
QF2 SIN-SYD in PE - personal greeting and recognition of status during dinner service
I don't really care one way or the other tbh, just find it odd how inconsistent the acknowledgement of high status pax is

QF41 in J last Friday - no specific acknowledgement of status (doesn't worry me) but also no real greeting at all in J, which is a bit disappointing, and unusual in my experience. Service just seemed a bit transactional.

I was in 1K so not tucked away out of sight in the mini-cabin. I also was literally the last person in the cabin to have my meal order taken - I think because I got up to use the bathroom briefly when the seatbelt sign went off. In this case it didn't really matter as I was mostly indifferent to the meal choices and was stuffed full from the FLounge food but I could see that being highly annoying. As a WP in the first row of business you'd thing they would at least be somewhat aware of circling back to you to take your order before things are likely to run out.

The FA did originally think my first choice had run out but turns out they had one left, so it all worked out.

QF408 Melbourne to Sydney, Business Class

Welcome back as boarding, seat next to me had the below placed on it.

Qantas employee ends up sitting there.

Edit: at least three other Qantas employees all seated in business seats

Edit 2; The Qantas employee sat in the seat for boarding only. It’s vacant during the flight.

Flew QF128 Y and got a personal greeting by the CSM just before they were starting to serve the main meals. He welcomed me on board and said that the FAs who were working my section would take care of me. I have a feeling that the flight may have been quite premium heavy (but most of those were upfront in J).

Just as well, as I had struck up a good conversation with said one of the FAs who was in the jump seat opposite to my exit row seat.

While I didn't get asked for my preference of meal for the dinner service, I was for the breakfast service. It was still served in normal sequence with others, but the FA specifically made sure there was a meal set aside for me. (It might not have made a big difference, as many others behind me also managed to get that preference).

Later the FA got me a QF keychain and a J amenity kit.

So this isn't on QF, but since it's always interesting to compare other OW carriers...

After a QF SYD-DPS in J with no semblance of greeting (Platinum or otherwise) and two QR J flights with the usual multiple greetings (though no specific acknowledgement of status, not that it matters), the oddest experience was our BA LHR-BUD flight in Y yesterday.

We're a group of 3, on a single booking - I'm WP and my two traveling companions are both SG. On this flight I was seated back in row 12 in an exit seat for more legroom, and the others were in row 9. I neither expected nor received any special recognition, but the others told me that they saw one of the FAs zipping hurriedly around the forward rows of the economy cabin handing out glasses of champagne to selected people, one of whom was one of my travelling companions - just a simple "would you like a glass of champagne" and that was that.

No mention of status, nothing offered to the rest of us, and no rationale as to why him... but a gratefully received (albeit random) gesture all the same.
