QF Plat Luggage Tag on Ebay - LOL

The major benefit of a Platinum luggage tag is that your bags will be thrown underarm.

Cheers

LoL too true. Just because your bags are tagged FIRST does in no way mean you actually get them First at the other end.

Not too sure why there even is a baggage priority as it never seems to work as intended. Perhaps it was introduced purely for the baggage guys to learn their throwing art.

Didn't you know? It's always opposites day

Confusion with members who have zeros in their FFN

At the top they scan your boarding pass and check the credentials on a computer, the staff at the top seem to get confused with members who have leading 0s in their Qantas account and that can also confuse them as well.

That reminds me of an event awhile back when I rang QF freq flyer using my mobile phone. You have to key in your ff number which I did and the next response I got was "emergency - police fire or ambulance"!

When it came to entering my ffn I must've accidentally put QF on hold without realising therefore when entering my number (which begins with three zeros) started a new call hence ending up with emergency!

Couldn't think of anything to say other than "oops, sorry wrong number". I'm quite sure the operator didn't need a detailed explanation of how it happened.

People seriously buy those things? LOL!!

It's the psychology of social status at it's best.

The actual tag is financially worthless and the same size/shape as the QP tages, yet somehow the colour makes it worth something in peoples minds.

Loyalty programs play on this in our heads - we want to feel important and valued and by having a WP tag - while they may not receive the benefits from QF - they do receive the invisible acceptance from other passengers when they see the tag.

It's about recognition by fellow travellers and this -- makes the financial value highly subjective!

But the plat tags, if no prior knowledge that they are plat tags, look like a tag that's below the level of QP in that it looks dull grey.

Before I became a Plat, I thought they were just any old generic QF tags. :D

The attendant there is tasked with filtering out most who would pretend to have access; dated membership cards are easy for them. However, being a "newby" WP, Anat0l was not holding such and needed other reference material.

Failing the situation that occurred, the attend would have either called for verification, or, escorted the group upstairs for such. (Methinks the latter)

Last year my dad took my sister and I to the Qantas F lounge early in the morning when we were on our way to Queenstown. He's OW Emerald but with Cathay Pacific, and at the time I was OW Ruby with them. My sister was just 16.

The doorman said he was only allowed 1 guest but let us go upstairs and try get in anyway. We were allowed in.

I think they are slightly sympathetic if you are in a family group, even if you don't have enough WPs/OWEs to cover everyone.

Certainly I've heard anecdotal evidence to suggest this for QPs - although if you're bringing a whole army of a family I think they'll see much more differently....

Yes I have taken Mrs and two daughters in, explaining that I hardly ever guest anyway. Never a problem - I agree that they seem to be sympathetic to families.

When Amex Plat was launched in Australia, I was invited to join and did so, mainly because the membership cost included full travel insurance and that was quite close to the quotes for insurance that I had been getting.

I proudly put the platinum tag on my briefcase. A colleague in the security business (ex govt special agency) asked about it. He told me that by displaying the tag I had "made myself a mark". It came off (and is still in a drawer somewhere). Nowadays I have the QF Plat tag on the briefcase, but tucked into a zippered pocket.

From a distance, the WP and QP tags look similar. It's only when one espys the important words "Frequent Flyer" rather than just a mere "Qantas Club" that you realise the bearer may indeed be a person of QFF substance ... :p

When the old style tags were present with the big print, it would have been relatively easy to tell.

Now that the tags sport a small "Frequent Flyer" or "The Qantas Club" lettering, the only tell apart is colour, which can be difficult to tell at a difference in awful lighting conditions.

I was thinking what cough people will buy...even the PJ's and amenities kits which has to be of questionable hygiene.

But then thought, if it was a CL tag advertised....I might be interested to pay a few $ to get it....although I don't know that that there is such a thing.
