QF P1 partner platinum

Yes. It doesn't matter how the WP was awarded.
That’s good to know.

It just seems that the T&C’s doesn’t imply that, saying when the P1 benefit (gifted WP) drops: “the nominated person's status will be assessed based on the number of Status Credits earned in the previous 12-month period”.

I took that to mean the system removes gifted WP status and applies any status they would otherwise have on their own SC.

This was why I wanted to know if they needed 1400 or 1200 SC when this occurs, as the wording is ambiguous on whether it’s “retaining” at that point. 🤷🏼‍♀️

If they drop to SG and do a status run that awards them WP (1400SC - double status credits can help here), they will ascend to WP upon attaining that requirement (1400 SC), and they hold it for their subsequent membership year, i.e., a full year following April.

That is different if they are already WP and obtain 1200 SC within the membership year; they will renew WP, which will expire the following April.

It can be better to drop than requalify as you can obtain (usually) up to 23 months of membership. But then again, some people have normal hobbies like pickle bottling and basket weaving.

Right this makes sense, but they do indeed need 1400 SC when the WP is gifted and not self earned to “retain” the WP (Gifted > Self earned platinum, within the same membership year), despite their profile saying 1200 SC is required right now (during the gifted WP status)?

What I’m trying to work out is how much they need to earn from now until their membership year date, while their gifted WP status is still active, to retain WP in general - given the P1 gifted WP will expire in January.

Sorry for not getting it and asking for clarification 😭

Yes, 1200 to retain within the membership year (1 May - 30 April). You can only retain it within the membership year unless, of course, Covid comes back.

1400 required to earn at any time if they are not WP.

As it is active, 1200 SC is required to earn until 30th April 2025 to renew.

Hey all, just rambling through the site. And saw this thread, one of my favorite contemplations re status. And although I acknowledge each persons situation is different, I just laugh at this mis-used perk. Why on earth would you give the P status to your partner??? Maybe I am different, but usually I travel with my plus 1. So she has all the lounge, etc benefits. I have only ever gifted the other status to friends, etc.
Strange use of the word "misused" imo. That's pretty subjective isn't it?

To me it implies you're suggesting that if one gifts Plat to their partner, and they travel together mostly, then that status gift is ... shall we say "wasted" rather than "misused"?

You commented your own partner is P1 too iirc. I imagine that is quite unusual, but obviously it happens. Obviously in that situation, you both have "excess" play status to gift.

However, many others are in different situations: some situation a partner may travel separately at times, but not enough to earn WP, so that gifting woukd make sense. Others gift to kids or ither family members.

I gift to a very thankful friend who makes great use of the status (mostly on reward tickets)

As you wrote, many different situations.

There probably are P1's in situations like yours who just don't gift it to anyone. That's a bit if a waste I guess, but that's up to them really. 🤷‍♂️

Still unsure where "misuse" comes into.it, but well happy if that amuses you somehow.

It might seem wasted if you're usually travelling with your non-status +1 and they'll benefit from your P1. But here are a few reasons why you'd give them partner platinum anyway:
  • If you're both travelling as a bigger family group, their being platinum will allow more relatives to come into the F and J lounges
  • In instances where you're travelling together for only part of the itinerary, their higher status provides benefits when they're not with you
  • Even if logically a friend is far more likely to travel without you and benefit more often, the brownie points don't begin to compare with those from a +1
  • The forbearance from a +1 is significant given the amount of travel a P1 does, and might result in them becoming interested in the status game too
  • A +1 might end up doing a trip or two on their own, and will not be forgiving if they can't benefit from some of the perks of status they keep hearing about from you
All IMHO, YMMV etc...
