QF or EK First?

Not only larger but higher resolution as well and IFE content probably the best in the air.

I don't think the English content is really much better than QF. But EK is a global airline catering to many demographics.

I wholeheartedly agree with your summary above however if you've already tried EK why wouldn't you give QF a crack? Then you will be able to give your thoughts when the next person asks after all it's not a long flight. Cheers CM

Having been in a similar position regarding choice it would be EK for me hands down. I used to fly EK A380 all the time and was one of the first plat members and was actually seated next to one of the very senior QF execs at the launch of the EK/QF partnership in Dubai. He assumed that because I was Australian I was there for QF and after I told him about how often I was flying with EK he suggested that I give QF a try as they had substantially improved service and product. I had a Dubai-London flight a couple of weeks later so decided to give QF A380 a chance. Let’s just say that I haven’t flown QF international since and jumped straight back on to EK where I thought IMHO it was a far superior product across the board (now I am back in Australia I have switched from EK to SQ for all my international travel). EK just seemed to get luxury and service which makes the flight that little more enjoyable for me so given the choice I would go with EK because you know exactly what you are going to get and you know it will be an amazing experience. Just my 2c.

I booked F award seats from Manchester to Adelaide a couple of weeks ago for my son and wife for their honeymoon. First choice was Emirates.

Thanks for everyone's posts. We've decided to go EK. For me it came down to the chauffeur service, onboard bar, caviar and shower. And as we still get access to the Qantas First Lounge, there didn't seem any other advantages with going QF.

Good question, actually- I've asked this myself a few times before. At first, I was under the impression that EK was WAY better but after doing both airlines in First quite a few times, my view has shifted a bit: Yes, the bling and particularly those showers on EK are unbeatable. But the crew is usually much more a gamble than on Qantas, I find the QF First crew almost always absolutely top notch. I also prefer the food on QF though the missing caviar service is a real minus in my books while I agree that the champagnes are actually better on QF (give me a Grande Dame over a Dom any day!).

The one big difference where I originally thought EK is way ahead are the seats: Yes, Qantas is cheating a bit calling those chairs a 'suite' as they certainly are not but I've learnt to like them and find them actually way more comfortable when turned into a bed than the rather narrow EK beds.- makes a difference especially on longer routes I find. Said that- if you're traveling as a couple and don't mind giving up your window seats, then of course the middle seats on EK are the way better option. For my partner and myself though, we rather have window seats behind each other anyway and the Qantas swivel seats have that excellent ottoman opposite which makes it really easy and comfortable to still enjoy dinner with your significant other.
