Morning AFFers,

I'm looking at flying back from HKG-SYD/MEL in J using my points. Originally was planning to do a JASA but there are no QF J seats open currently without that damn '!'. As I see it, have three options (opinions please!)
  1. CX J classic
  2. QF J classic (not sure of the odds)
  3. QF J ASA (again not sure of the odds)

Is it worth the hassle to first try and get a seat released and to get the SCs and points or should I just give CX a go (never flown them before)

Cheers!

cx. Hands down. On a paid ticket you don get as many points, but you do get the same sc...

Depends on the aircraft type, if its A380 J, I would go for that hands down (based on your intended route HKG-SYD you have a high chance of it being an A380), otherwise CX J is fantastic both on seat and service.

Good luck with your choice!

I wouldn't blink at using point on CX......pretty easy to secure a few weeks out.

The A330 seats are still okay? I've heard the 777s are brilliant but nothing about the A330.

I love the CX A330 J seats, though the A340 are terrible, can't stand the old herring bone layout.

They should all be the new business class now. But personally even the old business class was better than skybeds - but some love them, some hate them. I've travelled in all of them, skybed I & II, CX business & 'new business' in both the 333s & 77W, the CX hard product is better and the soft product IMO far superior.

I'd be tempted to go CX just to try it. But I haven't done either so I can't really help.

I'm thinking I'll try my luck in getting a JASA on QF because 120 SCs is 120 SCs whether they're needed or not, then if they can't get that going I'll jump on one of the multitude of CX award seats that are available around the time I'm looking to fly. I'll post back when I get around to doing it this week.

That's the beauty of hitting LTG....after getting the 1200SC the freedom to fly better OW airlines is liberating! ....and easier to procure

Cx is superior for schedule, service and food

Qf a380 is nice for roomy cabin

sorry for the newbie question, but is this a QFF points booking on CX? How many QFF points would a J seat on cx cost?

If you get a classic award seat released as a WP, you will only be able to redeem that as a classic and not an ASA. ie. no points earn and no SC earn.

I've heard stories of people being able to get the seat released and have it booked as an ASA, just need to find a willing and able operator. I figure it can't hurt to ask regardless. If I get a straight no then I'll just book the CX J classic.

i would go for CX.

as per the other threads... QF a380 you could end up with a droopy skybed (not completely flat). meal service can take up to two hours. a below average cafe style breakfast. someone said no pre-dinner drinks.

CX - great seat and bed. great IFE. quick meal (albeit not quite as inventive as some QF dishes). maximise sleep.
