Love JQs cancellations, in what should have been a busy month for them! Lets fly Jetstar, if you are not on one of the 3.5% flights that fail to go!

If we consider the national average for the difference between on-time departures to on-time arrivals, is a slip of 1.3 points (all airlines, all routes – i.e. 82.1% departures to 80.8% arrivals)

And we observe the specific Perth-Sydney route results:
Perth-Sydney
Jetstar 47 40 34 85.0 30 75.0 7 14.9
Qantas 206 206 180 87.4 175 85.0 0 0.0
Virgin Australia 150 149 128 85.9 98 65.8 1 0.7
All Airlines 403 395 342 86.6 303 76.7 8 2.0
Where Qantas slips 2.4 points (from 87.4% departures to 85.0% arrivals)

What happens to Virgin aircraft on that route which causes a slip of 20.1 points (from departures at 85.9% to arrivals at 65.8%)?

Its known as the XFB effect!

Would probably be due to ATC in SYD. OTP is when the aircraft has 'pushed back'.

Love JQs cancellations, in what should have been a busy month for them! Lets fly Jetstar, if you are not on one of the 3.5% flights that fail to go!

Last year I had three domestic flights booked with JQ as I wanted to give them a go and all three were cancelled within a couple of days of the departure. Jetstar were not at all helpful in assisting me. All their other flights on those days were booked out. The only thing they would offer was to rebook me on a flight the following day, all at times that were no use to me. I asked if they would put me on Qantas and the answer was a no. Even when there was a Qantas flight that had a JQ codeshare with available seats they would not put me on it.

The extra stress and hassle of having to rebook on a different airline at the last minute is simply not worth the hassle. I take this all as a sign that Jetstar don't want me to fly on them.

Have said that I have flown with 3K from Singapore and had no problems with them.

I'm still not getting the difference in QF vs VA (excluding JQ). (I haven't statistically tested whether the difference is significant, but it's kinda looking that way.)

VA's Jan result is quite disparate to their Dec 2011 result. I don't think XFB can be responsible for all that drop.

Any reason why the regional airlines (Qantaslink, VA ATR) always seem to do 'worse' than their mainline counterparts?

You need to think a bit about it and look back to Jan, QF does not fly into OOL/MCY for instance where frequentlythere is holding/diversions due to the lack of approach equipment, given the weeks rain before Australia day I suspect that had an impact! Same reasons for the regionals, often the weather means they will be late.

Lots of reasons & Weather is a big contributor.DJ fly to lots of leisure destinations QF either doesnt or has limited exposure to so if thing go wrong in SEQ VA and JQ can be impacted more than QF. QF also has the ability to better consolidate loads by upgrading aircraft and min multiple canx or multiple delays.
I imagine Jan can cause issues with tight turn times & a greater number of passengers with bags loading onto 737s to these leisure destinations which have to be manually loaded vs containers on QFs larger number of widebodies (QF A320s also have containers). QF also sit a number of planes on the ground in non business xmas -Jan period until the road warriors return in Feb .This helps when 1 plane breaks there are some sitting idle to slot in rather than canx. QF shud have better OTP in Jan for that reason alone
The old EK A330s dont help but QFs 747 to Per was never the best for OTP either

Do you work for Virgin? You sound like JB making excuses for the measure that DJ grave to win and need to make a huge deal about it. DJ put billboards around the place when they finally beat QF. And considering all of QF's woes, you would think DJ would be performing better. Maybe those A330s aren't really that great for corporates considering how much OTP is important to them.

Blaming the weather is a pretty weak excuse - all airlines are effected, no matter where they fly.

Slow down - no one was on the soap box here. And you're right - weather affects everyone. Not an excuse - just another factor.

As for the A330s, well, time might tell... but seems only XFB so far, like QF had OQA...

Considering the top poor performers were destinations that QF had deserted (OOL/NTL and MCY), I think weather was a big part of it. The flow on effects from that would have significant effect downstream, while QF would have had zero effect simply because they have passed the troubled destinations over to their fellow group companies!
