I was trying to purchase one today, and the consultant handling my booking advised me QF no longer do this?
I was wondering if anyone could advise me when QF stopped selling mixed class fares (in this case J/Y+) to/from LAX.

I was thinking the same tuppaware but apparently QF don't for some reason, going by similar posts over on FlyerTalk.
Markis, seems for whatever reason the mixed class is restricted to full fare F/J/Y when dealing with the US.

Unlike other airlines, Qantas do not allow Business one way and then Premium the other way. If you are using a good Travel Agent then the TA can book you economy one way and Premium the other way.

This is another reason to try VAustralia or Air New Zealand, both of whom allow Business one way and Premium the other and even allow you to do it yourself via their website.

Just speculation, but I guess it could potentially result in load inconsistencies - I know if I was going to do this I think I'd prefer PE on the way over, and J on the way back - you don't want to have to "downgrade" on the way back home! ;)

Therefore, it would be difficult to manage if everyone wanted PE in one direction and J the other way. Just a thought ... discuss!

Yepp! Qantas doesn't allow this.. Learnt the hard way last year for SYD-LAX-JFK-ORD-SFO-SYD trip.. Couldn't book Y+ SYD-lAX and J SFO-SYD as QF system does not allow.

However, was told by QF Telephone Agent that if my Travel Agent is reputable and good, they can access to QF Premium Desk Services for TA, who have the authority to do this on special cases..

But policy is no mixed travel classes.

One area in which I would like to see mixed classes would be for return trips with two segments each way. For example, if flying MEL-SIN-LHR return, I wouldn't mind doing MEL-SIN in PE and SIN-LHR in J, and same for the flights back.

For daytime flights or flights under about 8 or 9 hours, PE is great. 10 hours or more I do like to have a lie flat bed!
