Hi. I have a shortish, unprotected connection in SIN soon, as leave is hard to come by and I have tried to maximise my time on the slopes.

I arrive on QF77 at 1740 and am departing on MH610 at 2120, giving 3:40 between flights.

I keep reading on here about the transfer desks issuing boarding passes and arranging collection of your luggage which seems odd. Is this something I should do, or is it better to clear customs, get my luggage and check in again. The main issue I see with this is that MH check in is at terminal 2.

Lastly- the biggest issue is that I really need my luggage- my skis and snowboard. Is the safest option to check them myself or is it ok to rely on the ground staff if this transfer system exists?

Thanks.

3:40 at Sin is more than plenty of time to collect and recheck your luggage...that's what I'll do if it was me. Easy to catch train bet T1 and 2 even with luggage.

When you check in at PER, ask the check-in agent to tag your bag through to your final destination and show them you MH itinerary. I've done it before transiting through SIN. You'll have to show your bag tag receipt at the transfer desk when you get your boarding pass in SIN.

This will only work if travel date is after MH enter oneworld, as QF only through check if flights on separate itineraries to oneworld airlines

BTH I have only done this on a MH->QF connection in SIN. Haven't done a QF->MH connection.

Hmm. Thanks for the advice. Will ask at PER, worst they can say is no.

Is it simple to get from T(1?) to T2 at SIN landside? I realised I've never done a terminal T/F their after baggage collection, only airside.

Oh, wow. Thanks.

Never realised there was a public area sky train, and I've been through SIN a few times.

3:40 is a non issue... Will obviously take a very bad delay (like 2 hours plus) on inbound QF to stuff up your plans...

To give an example of the expected clearance times that are probably in place in terms of clearing immigration and retrieving lugage, arrived on a CX flight the other day and decided to use the PP lounge as an arrivals for shower etc... Went to the luggage carousel exactly one hour after flight landed to find my flight was not on the screen and no trace of my flight on any indicated carousel... Was a bit worried until i found out that my luggage had been moved to the loss and found counter to make way for other flights... So it seems SIN expect you to deplane / clear immi / and collect baggage well within one hour. That said, I am noticing immi to be less efficient now with some queues where there were previously none...

You can do landside transfer or airside transfer depending on your preference...

Thanks everyone. I tend to worry about this sort of connection but I know Singapore is very efficient. I just hope the QF plane has no significant delays. As my luggage is important to me, I will try to get it tagged all the way firstly, or will clear customs in SIN and pick it up myself failing that. If we are running late I will try the transfer desk.

Will let you know how it goes, and if QF will check it through.

Even if you don't get it tagged through to MH, you won't need to clear customs at SIN.

Stay airside and simply go to a transfer desk with both tickets and your QF bags tags and they'll transfer it for you!

(Yes, SIN is different;))
Hi - a few comments.

...
2/ Don't think they will check bags through at HKG (but you can ask I guess), but even in SIN, I don't think you need to clear customs. Just go to the airside transfer counter and they can sort things out for you (maybe will save you 15 mins or so?). Even though you are flying budget, they will help you out because it 3K to QF

FAQ - Changi Airport - What should I do if I have a connecting flight at Changi?
(a) If you are connecting from a full service carrier flight to another.
If you have your boarding pass (with a seat allocation) for your connecting flight, you may proceed directly to the gate for your connecting flight. If you do not have a boarding pass for your connecting flight, you should proceed to the nearest Transfer counter in the terminal of your connecting flight. You will then be issued with a boarding pass and arrangements will be made for the transfer of your baggage to your connecting flight. Passengers are advised to find out the transfer details from their airline(s) before embarking on their journeys. Most passengers who are arriving on a budget airline or connecting to a budget airline are required to seek immigration clearance and obtain their onward boarding passes in the respective Departure Check-in Hall.

I have had this exact experience, QF didnt tag my bags through KUL, (I was flying PER-SIN-KUL) and they would only interline on OW carriers. However popped to the transfer desk and they did everything airside for me. :) Changi airport efficency FTW

To update: forgot about asking to tag all the way to NRT at QF in PER. The lady checking me in seemed a bit angry and requested I split my double ski bag into two, which has never been an issue.

Left on time and in SIN made my way to a T2 transfer lounge where they efficiently checked us in and said the luggage would be tagged to NRT, and that they would collect it. It all arrived safely in NRT so I needn't have worried.

Thanks for all the advice!
