Hi all

Trying to book a QF Oneworld 280k J trip with my QFF points but running in to some issues with QF call centre staff with bookings on QR (Qatar Airways).

Searching on QFF there is next to no J availability on QR flights and I am looking in September October November 2016 for SIN - DOH - ATH. After some web searching I used BA avios program to search for award seats on QR. I found a fair bit of J availability for the September dates I was after. I am now ready to book and talking with QF they can't see the QR award.

Does the BA avios award program have access to the same J award seats as QFF? From my research I was under the impression that they do have the same access but QFF award search just isn't good at finding them.

Does anyone have experience booking QR through QFF where award availability is shown on BA avios but not on QFF?

Cheers

Yes I have a current Qatar CDG - DOH J booking for Feb 16 which I found on the BA site and booked some 8 months out through QF as part of a 280k reward. The booking process was very easy with Qantas. I'd suggest HUACA if you haven't already

The QFF site doesn't show QR J seats at all, you'll need to call up. QR uses married segment control, so they should be there as long as you searched as SIN-ATH on the BA site.

I've got a 280k booking for May that is QR SYD-DOH-ATH. J flights didn't show up on the Qantas booking engine, but I called up when I saw them on BA and no problem getting the seats

Thanks for all your replies.

I have ditched the idea of going on QR flights after I could not see the availability on BA avios after the phone call to QF. Someone must have snagged them during my call!!! :(

I have another issue now as part of a revised plan, has anyone recently booked cathay point to point between 2 destinations with a transit?

I am trying to book as part of the award: SIN - HKG (transit) HKG - MXP as two separate flights with less than 24hrs between each flight, both flights are CX. Online it works fine but calling the call centre to book as part of my 280k J award they said they won't book it as Cathay must be booked all the way through SIN - MXP (which shows no availability). Have also posted on the J AWARD 280K thread but if you have any advice I am keen to hear it!!

Thanks

Cathay have some funny restrictions on connected flights. This gets a bit of discussion in the 280k thread. I understand the general rule is as you were advised - you need to search the complete journey.

But some strange exceptions occur. I could see CX BOS-HKG-SYD in J as available separate flights. I called to book and was told it was not allowed. I could book the two flights if HKG-SYD was in Y, so I did this with the plan of calling back a week later when the QF flights were released and then trying to change this to the QF flight in J. When I called back I was able to change the CX HKG-SYD from Y to J!

Wondering if AY used married segment control? Latest plan is to do SIN - HEL - FCO.... on AY?

I've no experience booking AY flights. Another option might be MH? I'd be asking the Qantas assistant about those.

Does anyone have experience booking QR through QFF where award availability is shown on BA avios but not on QFF.

I've found multiple examples of award availability on oneworld airline being available on a particular oneworld site but not on another (eg. CX J showing on QF but AA not being able to see it or, more often, QF not showing availability but AA being able to see it). It's become clear to me that different oneworld carriers have access to different award inventory.

The QFF site doesn't show QR J seats at all, you'll need to call up. QR uses married segment control, so they should be there as long as you searched as SIN-ATH on the BA site.

Qatar availability does show online:

It appears you are double-posting.

Trying to book the following J award itinerary and have a lot of trouble with the CX legs and the HG / AY (Nikki / Finnair) legs.

BNE MEL (transit) - QF
MEL SIN (Overnight Transit) - QF
SIN HKG (transit) – CX (Supposedly illegal, cannot be point to point between CX transit legs)
HKG MXP (Stop) – CX (Supposedly illegal, cannot be point to point between CX transit legs)

CHQ VIE (transit) - HG (QANTAS cannot see availability – BA avios can)
VIE HEL (transit) – AY (QANTAS cannot see availability – BA avios can)
HEL JFK (Stop) - AY

YYZ JFK (Transit) - JJ
JFK YVR (Stop) - CX

YVR NRT (Transit) - JL
NRT SYD (Transit) – JL
SYD BNE (Home) - QF

First issue is supposedly an unwritten rule around transits (<24hrs) between Cathay flights booked point to point. They said that I can't book the SIN - HKG, HKG - MXP (Milan) with a transit as it needs to be booked as SIN - HKG - MXP (Milan). There is no availability for the latter so I need to have a stop over in HKG to break the journey. Has anyone had this issue?? Are there any ways around this?

I use BA avios to check availability on HG / AY (Nikki / Finnair) legs but QF cant see this. Does anyone have any suggestions?? Availability still shows.

I appreciate any help.

More likely it was phantom inventory - although I'm not sure of the extent of how this affects QR.

Both BA and QF show a lot of phantom inventory on CX for example.

The QF website still does not allow you to set DOH as a point of disembarkation. ..

I have repeatedly complained to QF about this in the past, though as they don't show J inventory anyway it doesn't really matter (you need to use BA or others anyway).

I suspect it has something to do with the EK tie-up.

I'm sure the ACCC would be interested, though.

I've been really keen to try out the 380 QR F Product. I've had connecting flights pop up with some F fares on one leg..
