Based on this article, I wouldn't want to be a shareholder Qantas extends deadline for 'clearly unfair' COVID credits My bolding but that's quite a bit they owe to creditors!

It is the third time the deadline has been extended with about $800,000 million of the $2 billion in credits yet to be used.

Now surprised the ABC is even bothering with this type of article Julie wanted to use her late husband’s Frequent Flyer points to see her grandchildren but they'd been cancelled

Ms Jenner said while she did not have a huge amount accumulated, estimating there were between 2,000 and 3,000 points on the membership at the time of her husband's death, but she believed they should have been transferred to her.

Even more surprised given how few points we're talking about!

On the first article, presumably they mean $800 million? Shame that wasn't fixed in the original article.

On the second, they talk about reading the T&Cs... would many people really disagree with the condition about the points being particular to the individual and lost upon death to the extent of refusing to get QFF membership?

Points are one thing. Flight credits entirely another. I’d be truly pissed off it they expired at all.

I had a trip early in the covid saga that I had to cancel, and I made sure I got a refund not a credit, simply because I just knew they‘d attach an expiry date, in the sure knowledge that a large percentage of people would end up unable to take the flight within the limits. I’m sure it’s called business by some, but theft by others.

I was sooooo close to contacting ABC Sunshine Coast to let them know just how stupid this article is, and offer advice of going to Woolies and buying a $100 giftcard to earn the same amount points, but refrained.

I'm amazed that both the ABC and this poor woman thinks 2-3k QFF points is something to consider a loss, but more concerned her lawyer advised her to pursue it. Clearly no-one actually checked to see what the value of the points could be, especially relative to her intended use, ie for her grandchildren to visit her on the Sunshine Coast from Mackay. Feel sorry for QF that they were made to be the bad guy on this one.

I had wondered if perhaps the ABC got the order of magnitude wrong like they did in the first article. Ie, perhaps it was 200k to 300k. Otherwise, you're spot on!

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
