I booked a few weeks in to the announcement of the border bubble with New Zealand and Australia which to me seems mostly successful and booked Qantas flights with preferred times coordinated around my 1 year old. I have already had two cancelled flights and bumped to new flights either on Jetstar, via Sydney or a different day.

I spent 5 hours 10 minutes on hold trying to get through to Qantas last Thursday and then hung up and have sent messages to their social media and received a response today 5 days later.

What are my chances of getting upgraded to business for all the mucking around? I know they are mucking everyone around but you dont know unless you ask right?
Qantas recently have matched me to Qantas Gold once I complete my status match by end of June which I will have done.

Thanks

Zero chance. Wouldn't even waste 1 second asking.

No airline in Australia upgrades you because they've given you the run around with reschedules....

Sorry :(

Yeah I expect as much :( I am just annoyed paying for a Qantas fare and ended up on a Jetstar with a 6am flight and 1 year old. :/

Probably unlikely but you could ask to be put on the Air NZ flight?

No idea on the chance of an upgrade but Seems like Qantas has worked out the GC-ALK route is not worth their time. They cancelled my return flight (ALK-GC) today and re-routed me through Sydney. Got my points back and booked through Airnz. (There were a few on the flight with me today who had the same happen and had to book Airnz)

Get them to book you out of Brisbane? Probably less chance the flight will be cancelled.

It probably won't make the OP feel any better, but QF has been busy cancelling or rescheduling NZ-bound flights from SYD and MEL as well. I don't think the demand for NZ bubble flights was as high as QF had hoped.

Oh- VERY busy indeed. And usually you end up being bumped from the A330 to a 737 or miss out on carefully planned lounge time. Has happened a few times to me now. Oh- and the worst is if you get seated away from your travel partner or family due to the aircraft downgrade, this is also happening regularly a result of it all.

Until travel gets more back to normal, I'd just tale this as a risk that's included on any trans- Tasman booking. As is the risk to suddenly being stranded the other way and having to quarantine in the worst case. Suddenly a seat or aircraft change doesn't sound that bad anymore... ;)

5h10m on hold for an SG trying to deal with involuntarily cancellations is atrocious. Must be some sort of record.

The NZ flights have been a show and a half on Qantas - changes and cancellations galore. I booked SYD-AKL and they changed the flight time on me so booked to WLG instead at a cost because I was going to a different destination. Then they cancelled that flight and changed me to an early morning flight but put the AKL flight back on at the time It was originally supposed to go. Qantas also charged me because it was a different destination. Argued with them but no deal as the flight time was what I was after not the destination. Many many hours on hold and arguments trying to get a late flight out of SYD.

When I left AKL the other day the departure board was full of cancelled Australia flights. Flew NZ home and the FA I was chatting with said the east coast flights are almost empty some days but the Perth flight seems to be doing better load wise (guess that's because of the competition and frequency on the East Coast)
