I don't have any problem flying 8-9 hours in Y during the day....it is the overnighter that kills me. Also my favourite the Conrad Macao is a bit expensive for my datesI find doing the odd Y journey helps keep my feet grounded. Never want to have too much of a good thing.

On the return sure but I find a spare seat next to me on the daytime flight is perfect to get some work done, catch up on TV etc. Coming back however your strategy is right on the money imoMy strategy is to eat and drink enough at F lounges in AUS and HKG then pass out onboard on both legs![]()
The stars aligned on my last trip up where checking in for both legs in SYD I was handed my SYD-HKG BP with the pre allocated seat on the 388 along with a J BP for HKG-SYD on the 333.Just did that from HKG to MEL on Thursday night. Stuck in Y since my J upgrade didn't happen. Filled up in the F lounge, four seats to myself in Y and straight to sleep. Quite happy I didn't have to spend the 27k points for a flat bed![]()
The domestic connections were more than a few dollars when I checked earlier. Should have booked an overnight return from Sydney if only to try the new 787.For few dollars extra can add domestic connection to score some SCs, or even more with magic vouchers![]()

Unfortunately no Flounge access for me.My strategy is to eat and drink enough at F lounges in AUS and HKG then pass out onboard on both legs![]()
These cheap prices to HKG are certainly aimed at Virgin and their new route...
