QF First Lounge in Singapore

They have certainly raised the bar for lounges in SIN.

(pun intended)
OT, but I’m yet to experience the SIN QR lounge and coughtail bar but SYD+1 reported that it’s quite delightful. Apparently those in the know flying out on the OMG it’s late QR flight make a beeline to the QF F lounge after checkin and then on closing, shuffle off like migrating penguins to the QR lounge.

Will be transiting Singapore Changi en route to London from Sydney on QF81/QF1 (about 5.5 hours between flights). Coming back a few weeks later on QF2/QF52 to Brisbane (about 3 hours between flights). In business class on all sectors and am Qantas Platinum/One World Emerald.

Just wondering which people think might be better - the Qantas First Lounge or the new Qatar Premium Lounge?

Plenty of time to do both heading over. QR opens just before QF81 lands so you could go there first and then get to QF before QF1/2 hoards arrive.

Apologies for the second OT question - which lounge would you recommend when travelling QF1/2 given the relatively short layover?
I think the QR lounge is in another terminal to QF's at SIN so if you have a short layover you may not have time to visit it.

Both lounges are in T1. QR is a bit of a further walk away as it’s beyond the access for the QF J and BA lounges at the next escalator C gates.

I honestly don’t think it would be worthwhile trecking there on the short layover.
Better to go when you have a longer transit and enjoy.
One thing in its favor is that the extra 5 minute walk would vastly increase your chances of getting a shower given that it’s relatively undiscovered.

Thank you. Will see how I feel on the day!

Has the added benefit of being next to the EK lounge too, so if QR doesn't have showers available there's a backup option next door.

Both are in T1, QR near gate C21 (entrance is adjacent to EK lounge), Qantas First is 200 metres away to the East, near Marhaba lounge.

Note: the main concourse is level 2, you need to use lifts/escalators to access these lounges on level 3

Access is:

Qantas First Lounge:
  • oneworld First PAX and guest
  • oneworld Emerald PAX and guest
  • Qantas Platinum/Platinum One PAX and guest travelling Jetstar

Qatar Lounge:
  • oneworld First PAX
  • oneworld Business PAX

Assuming you qualify for either then if QF1/QF2 uses C gates, use the Qatar lounge, if D gates then Qantas First.

Both are good, but the Qatar lounge was slightly better when I visited in 2020 (prior to covid). As they only allow J tickets (no status access) it's a little smaller, and much more "premium". Especially if you're competing with the QF1/2 hordes.

Shower suite
Did you find the water pressure to be adequate, assuming you took a shower? Last time I was there a month ago it was terrible.
Is it just me or are the bathrooms in the J lounge fair bit bigger?
I think they're a bit bigger but not by much. Mainly the shower section is longer.

The skylights are nice!

I'd agree the J ones are larger. I also found it strange that there was no little bench to put your bag on. Only after the shower I realised there is a pull down shelf next to the toilet. It essentially pulls down over the toilet.

Water pressure wasn't great. It was just adequate IMHO. What I found strange though is they don't provide a wash cloth.

Tried the pork belly- it was one of the more disappointing "plates" I have had in a Qantas "First Lounge". Chewy rather than crispy skin ... other than the cabbage and mustard, lifeless. (I'm thinking I'll need to show them what I can do with belly pork using an airfryer ...)

Thay have fixed it!

This evening... wonderful ... i refrained from asking if they had gotten themselves an air fryer

Lucky duck noodles with cashew and sesame (apologies for the poor photo, forgot to take a close up)

Wontons were great. S&P squid was crispy but I'm glad they garnished with a decent amount of chopped red chilli as the green chilli dipping sauce had very little kick. The lucky duck noodles were fine but forgettable, I wouldn't order them again.

Waiter Kamal offered near impeccable service and was quick to offer a glass of Taittinger Brut Reserve the moment I asked what champagnes were on offer. He wasn't flustered despite having quite a number of other diners to juggle and ensured my glass was never empty for the whole visit.
