Hi There

Quick one for you all. I have seen away from Oz for a year now, living in Shanghai. I use *A for most of my travel in Asia. I am still QF Gold, but i see that they have brought in an eligibility requirement, that you have to fly on QF in order to attain / retain status. Thats a bummer, as any OW flights that i would do are normally UK or US and therefore not QF.

My question is this, if I lose my status, will my points remain. I thoguht my "account" was active provided that it had transactionsd at least once every three years - my old ANZ credit card sees to that.

Will they just drop me to bronze and leave me there, or remove my membership completely and make me burn my (significant) QF points in a hurry - which we all know would be tough to do.

Any bright sparks out there know the answer?

Your points are not affected by this new rule. Only your ability to earn status, so should you drop, then you will still have your points to spend which will not expire unless you have 3 years inactivity

Also keep in mind that the flight segments can be on codeshares (as long as you would normally earn points for the flight) which could assist you.

Or if you come home just fly QF once a year direct from PVG ? not sure where you live but if you connect via SYD or MEL you could easlity do the required 4 segments in one return trip. (or even fly Dragon Air to HKG and QF from there)

Or if you goto Europe etc at all you would be suprised how cheap the QF flights are from SIN,HKG,BKK.

I had thought of coming backto Oz, but all the (extended) family are in the UK. Even though DragonAir are now part of CX, I don't believe they have code share flights with QF, do they. We are MEL based so cannot get direct from PVG - unless we code share with MU. No thanks!

Flying from from PVG to BKK or SIN and then onto MEL would only give me 2 segments, right? As I cannot get OW direct to these cities. Only OW I could do is Cathay, and then i have the problem of only one Cathay from PVG per day, the rest are KA codeshares.

I am also with BMI, which even though is a pretty mediocre airline, there mielage accumulation for gold is second to none. Double points for busienss classs for any *A carrier (except SQ) is great. I am so hacked off with OW, which doesn't really promote the alliance at all. I recently travelled with Finnair to UK from PVG, and I only got a 25% milage bonus for business class. Poor IMHO. Bit OT, but they have no requirement for me to fly with them to maintain status, and anything over 55,000 miles they double for me - effectively 4x times if in C, plus another 25% monthly bonus. Sweet.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

There is or used to be atleast until recently a SYD-PVG QF proper, as well as a China Eastern code share (A330 but still no thanks!) so a return would be...
PVG-SYD-MEL and the reverse so you would get 4 segments.

DragonAir are joining Oneworld proper later in the year :)

I had heard BMI were decent *A option.

You would still be eligible to earn QFF points even though you would not qualify on status.

Don't forget that QF implements soft landings so you would first go to Silver and then Bronze. And if you are lucky enough you may even get comp'd Gold another year before they start dropping status....
