QF domestic service tired, slow... and what's with the Asian weddings???

So last night I flew QF domestic BNE-MEL for the first time in 5 months.... boy have I NOT missed them!

I forgot all about the terrible safety video – soooo bad! And the inflight “entertainment”? Some awful show called “Crazy Rich Asian Weddings” which looks like a cheap rip-off of the movie “Crazy Rich Asians” – I feel like I could write an entire post dedicated to this dreadful show, and I might one day, but for now let me just say this: in my life I have known 2 Billionaires – for one of them, I was a personal assistant. For the other, I worked very closely with him as a project manager. Neither of them would ever dream of putting their kid’s wedding on a terrible TV show for some ego points. They say in Asia you pay to be rich… and I really think that is the case with this terrible show. I doubt these people are actual billionaires… or even millionaires. Best way to describe the show is a bad version of the Kardashians…. (I know right).

Anyway… I was sitting in row 4, behind business, and in my desperate attempt to not look at the crazy Asian weddings, I decided I would watch the J dinner service unfold…..

As people have already discussed at great length, the QF J dinner service is SOOO slow. It wasn’t until 50 minutes into the flight that the cart finally wobbled out the galley and began its crawl up the aisle…. Although they might have been offered a drink to start with (I didn’t notice). On VA they serve you within 15 mins easily and don’t use a cart. And seem to remember names without constantly referring to the manifest. By the time the poor person in 3F got served we were easily past the 1 hour mark. And then there is the constant moving of the cart to allow people to get to the toilet… and there was absolutely ZERO policing of the J toilet – I counted at least 5 people from Y going up, completely unchallenged.

And what’s with the bread??? Sorry – the “bakery” items?? I love how they refer to it as “bakery items”. FFS, it is bread. Just call it that. They seem to take great pride in the silly way they serve the bread with 2 upside-down forks like a 2yo learning to use chopsticks. I think they even go to special butler school to learn that??? I say forget the forks, dump the cart, and just speed the whole process up. I think there were still tickets available for that flight in J for $1,800… what a bargain.

The crew were just OK. Not rude, but not overly warm. Maybe because until recently I was a virgin virgin (pun intended!) I am seeing things through slightly jaded eyes, but I really try to be objective, and every flight I have had with VA this year the crew have been friendly, smiling, fun, nice, enthusiastic… look like they enjoy their jobs.
Now, I am sure the day will come when VA drops the ball… and when it does, I will be here to faithfully recount it, but thus far…… done nuthin wrong!

Serving bakery on virgin is sooo much better with the 2 up side down spoons?
TBH I haven't noticed - will take a better look next time!
Perhaps they are just better at it, do it quicker, therefore not noticeable? Plus I think they call it bread.

TBH I tune out, a couple of virgin business flights this week I thought it was bakery, but I'm not at all sure.
 
Maybe the FA only had part 1 of the double fork training....

Part 2 is when the FA is taught how to manage toilet invaders of the J cabin.

did anything BAD or wrong actually happen on this flight? Was it hugely late? Doesn't seem so. On BNE-MEL it is most usual for a pre-dinner drink, but yes they can be slow, but on a two hour flight it doesn't bother me THAT much if the "meal" (such that it is) rolls out half way-ish. Each to their own.

I found this an amusing post however would not recommend. :p

You do seem to suffer a lot from (and complain a lot about) first world problems.

And how does that differ from the other 50,000 threads on AFF? It is a site, by very definition dedicated to first world problems 😲

But I suspect there is a bit of baiting (not malicious though) going on in the original post, good to see many have risen to it :p

Yes to be fair there are lots of them.

And I totally can see how he would be mortified that an airline would actually provide screens in an aeroplane that people of a lesser taste in entertainment may have watched. ;)

I do find it, however, extremely amusing when people decide "this post is a rant" and "that post is discussing a serious issue".... is there a handbook I can refer to?

I wasn't baiting. I was just making an observation. As is pretty much 99% of the material here - personal observations. Now, if you disagree with my observation - fine - that's what a forum is for. But you should follow it up with a counter observation.

For example, I say "QF J cabin service woefully slow - I timed it at 50 mins before service started"
If you disagree, you say "Actually I find it really fast. I too timed it and I got served in 5 mins"

It's called a conversation :)
