QF Domestic Seats

Why is it when my wife and I flew QF on 767s we never got 2 seats to ourself? (window and aisle)

We always somehow got allocated the middle block (aisle and centre)

My wife SG had Window seat in her domestic travel profile and I at the time was also SG with aisle in my domestic travel profile. She never ever got a window seat (at least 8 flights from PER to MEL!)

Now that I am WP, does that mean my profile will overide hers/???

Maybe we both have to have Window in our profiles???

I have heard that the first person listed in a reservation wins the seating allocation battle.

So if your name is first and you have an aisle, your partner will be seated next to you, but you will be on the Aisle.

If you're a window person, then you'll get the window and your partner gets to be next to you.

I don't know if Qantas is smart enough when allocating seats on a lightly loaded plane to seat travelling companions (eg) 5A and 5C with 5B being non-allocated.

Note also that some bookings made via travel agents and similar third parties have seating preferences that overrule your profile selections.

I've always made bookings thru qantas.com...

Maybe I should change my profile to window and my wife's to aisle, since her name is before mine on the alphabet.

Or maybe I should just change to window and window!

For domestic flights, WP preferred seating is allocated before SG; with a WP in the booking that seems to be taken into account for all in the booking.

It is my (recent) experience that my seating preferences (WP) overrides mrs serfty's (PG) when we are on the same PNR.

Of course both having the same surname makes such analysis perhaps moot.

I am a WP with a forward aisle preference, and when we last flew together my partner was an SG with a forward window preference. On all occassions we've flown together on 737's my partner has been allocated a window and me the adjacent centre seat. My partner's surname is ahead of mine in the alphabet, and same thing happens when travelling with colleagues, so I am convinced the first alphabetical surname in the booking overrides highest status passenger. Either that or just plain bad luck.

I am a WP (have been for 4 years now) and have fwd aisle on my preferences. When travelling in domestic J/D usually get row 1 or 2. One of my colleagues just got to WP for the first time, and whenever we travel together, he always gets a seat in a row (or 3) ahead of me. Hie surname starts with E and mine with P - I assume it is the alphabet thing.It even happens when his booking is made a day or 2 after mine.

My boss and I are both WP with forward aisle as seat preference. When we are travelling on the same PNR he gets the aisle seat and I'll get the middle seat. His surname starts with D, mine with S

My wife is going to be WP soon and her surname starts with B, so hopefully she will get her window preference, and I should get the seat next to her on the aisle when on 767s.

I have posted this before, but there may be differing levels of status within status.

I perfect example is the 73H; as a SG I on most busy flights I would generally be allocated around rows 7 & 8. When I became a WP I perceived little difference, perhaps row 6 a bit more often. Once I attained PG, my 73H preallocation is rarely further back than rows 4 and 5; row 4 more often than not.

Note my surname does start with A.

Also, there has been suggestion that the earlier booking gets priority within status levels; this may make sense as most of my domestic flights are booked 3-6 months in advance (making use of the better 'sales').
