Have booked QF10, just the domestic leg PER-MEL. (originates London)

Now it departs the Perth international Terminal
Usually fly VA domestic, but for some reason they had a 6hour day gap between flights so the A350 suited us better. was reward booking in Y.

Now any issues getting thru to INT terminal, passports required etc?
Will we be able to use the QF INT business lounge as a QF Gold member?
Any other info.

thanks AFF.

Aircraft is B787 not A350...

Driver licence will suffice as photo ID:
  • Present it at check-in counter
  • Boarding pass will be issued with an orange "D" sticker and the ID number written on it
  • Sign the sticker
  • Present photo ID and boarding pass to outbound immigration (sticker on boarding pass will be stamped upon verification) and at arrival (for both inbound immigration and customs)
You can even access the domestic Qantas Club after check-in if you have time.

LAGs, international requirements of no larger than 100ml in the clear bag.

This often trips people up.

Yes to the lounge.

The Int Business lounge in PER is now closed permanently. The transit lounge which hasn’t yet re-opened was only available to passengers on the Long haul segment ex-PER. Domestic passengers use the Domestic Business or Qantas club.

Are you sure it departs from the "Perth International Terminal"? T1 is generally considered the "International Terminal" at PER, however, Qantas operates a small international annex via swing-gates at T3 (with check in at T4)?

Just an FYI - because if you said "International Terminal" to a Perth taxi driver, then you may end up on the wrong side of the runway, over at T1, right next to Virgin, haha.

OK, thanks dk4 & Princess Fiona.
I'm not overly familiar with Perth airport other than terminals on each side.

my booking says depart T4, so getting to the airport I have to be specific state T3/T4 terminal.
I have a fading recollection of this in the past. Not that it matters really, but the 787-9 will land at T4 (domestic), technically not T3 which is the international terminal (apart from T1 which is recognised as international).
And seems I'll have access to QPub in T4, all is good.

That's it... just think, T4, that's all....

You check in at T4, you go through your first set of security at T4 (standard domestic security restriction apply), then you go to the domestic Qantas lounge at T4, and when it's time to board, you walk through the domestic air-side connection bridge between T4&T3, and head for the international departures area, where you will go through security screening again (enhanced international security restrictions apply) and domestic passenger ID check at immigration.

(So the whole process is similar to an international departure at; ADL, OOL, CBR or DRW, if you have ever been through those airports, which also use International swing-gates, in what are mostly domestic terminals. Rather than like an international departure at PER T1, which would be similar to international departures at SYD, MEL, BNE or CNS, which all have specific "international terminals".)

PER is the only airport in Australia that uses both systems for international, thanks to Qantas refusing to move to a new build terminal on the other side of the airport, as per the masterplan... but that's whole other thread somewhere else! haha

Although, coming soon to SYD

Do you have more information about this? I know there was once a master mooted plan for SYD that would have the two sides of the airport separated largely by alliance (QF/Oneworld on one side and Virgin/whoever their partner of the day is on the other side), with dom and int at both sides. But this was roundly rejected by Virgin who didn't want their domestic ops to be further away from the CBD.

It's a proposed T4 that wouldn't require VA to move (which was the earlier model).

Received below email...seems QF consider my PER-MEL flight (QF10) an international......my goodness, can't their IT system read their own IT system that says I'm flying the domestic leg only????

Such simple things they get wrong, honestly!
The upgrade option clearly states domestic upgrades will be confirm immediately. Not that I've opted for one.

QF10 is an international flight. A domestic leg, but in most aspects it's treated as international. I assume the link has stuff about LAG restrictions etc.

Ive done this flight (PITA wont do it again), i brought my passport (i thought was necessary), manual check in only at international check in time (closes 60mins prior).

Cant use the intl lounge.

(if you dont bring passport you cant use the autogates on arrival at MEL)

international security liquids etc.

cheers, don't believe the liquids will be an issue for us.
I imagined there'd be a few more hoops than standard domestic, but that's ok. All part of the fun, especially as we don't have an INT booking on the cards atm, ha!

The time suited us more than anything. Early arvo dep.

Fair enough, maybe I'm being little harsh.

It IS an international flight.

It IS an international flight.
But I don't need a passport to travel it. what makes it INT??? that it's number QF10? from where it arrived from??

Domestic leg of an International flight......??

It's Perth to Melbourne, Perth did seem a foreign country during covid.

It's international because it departs from and international terminal and arrives at an international terminal where you have to clear border force on both sides of the flight.
It's really that simple, it's been happening for decades these arrangements.

I'm not sure if you've ever done this before, but once you do, you'll get what everyone is talking about.

In almost every way the experience is almost identical to you flying overseas. Really the only difference is you get waived through immigration (you still have to go through though) and you're not entitled to buy duty free.

You are pretty much legally exiting and re-entering Australia - you just get an easy path as you're not going via another country.
