Dearie dearie dearie me,

There certainly are some princesses on this board.

So you don't get your meal choice?

Big deal.

Have a nice dinner/lunch/breakfast when you get off.

Or better still - vote with your wallet - try the competition.

What's the point of coughing about it here?

If you don't like it - complain to the CSM, or put in a complaint to the mangy roo.

(shakes head, slowly...)

Hi Troppo,

Welcome. I see that you are fairly new here.
Hey, I got a chuckle at what you said, and was delighted that you were not shy in projecting a bit of personality in saying it. I agree with your point, namely that some people are difficult to please, and very ready to complain about not much.
But expect some readers to take umbrage at being labelled "princesses". Gee, a while back I made a similar comment in a similar situation and suggested that the complainers were being a bit "precious". Wow, the kick-back I received for daring to suggest that someone was precious told me that there are some very sensitive souls in our midst.
Keep up the posts with personality!

Or perhaps some people miss the point that this is a forum for "discussing" things. So if someone asks a question as per the OP and thread title, note the "?". Then it is hard to support the assertion that people are precious, whinging princesses, IMO.

My track record is nothing to be proud about. But I am slowly learning that if people are discussing something that I feel the need to ridicule, I'm probably better keeping out of it if I have nothing constructive to add. I guess that is a value judgement we all need to make ourself.

They're hardly alone in taking that tone; the level of discourse here has gone south a fair bit recently, some from longtime members who should know better.

There's no harm in disagreement, but the potshots are getting a little tiresome.

True, few can claim any moral high ground. But I still think that we could all stop and reconsider a contribution if the sole point is to belittle someone's opinion. It is possible to disagree with an opinion by focussing on your own view rather that characterising the other person in a particular manner.

Invalidating someone's opinion by calling them a whinger or otherwise is a form of bullying. When I was a kid I was told to confront bullies.

Hi,
The plain truth is that the more Qantas management publicly berate their staff, the more the staff will take us much as they can without regard to the customer. Good service requires a constructive relationship that motivates staff. The actions of Qantas staff which seem to demonstrate many don't care about the customer are symtomatic of a break down in the corporate culture of Qantas.

I am not surprised when the Board appointed the CEO of a Low Cost Airline to the job at Qantas , the writing was on the wall.

Farmer.

I agree. I'd hate to see AFF denigrate into what seems to be near-commonplace on Flyertalk where there's almost constant attacks on people, lack of manners, pathetic sarcasm, rudeness, disrespect, certainly in many threads I've read.

When I was a kid I was told to confront bullies.

And the way to confront them is to report the post, not fuel the flames intentionally or not by replying to a post that is possibly offensive or attacking a member rather than the argument, that applies to all members ( I am not saying anyone in particular tries to handle situations in the wrong way) :).

Fair call.

(However, we will have to differ on interpretation of one specific example that might be fresh in our memories.*)

My experience of reporting things suggests that multiple reports as well as a reply (or 2) might be required. I have also been informed that implied abuse is acceptable, which would suggest that possibly offensive is not something to report.

Then there is the question of what is offensive. I don't particularly take offense at being called an arrogant pig, even if I think supercilious is a better description. Hence I may not report such thing, as I'm not offended. I might then respond in similar terms, as the other person, in labeling me in that way, must also not see it as an offensive term. I think that explains why something that is generally considered offensive may not be reported. It is up to individual response. In the same way that things that do offend me are not generally considered to be offensive.

(*I'm not in any way questioning any specific actions that have been taken. I fully respect and support all actions taken and the people making those decisions. It is a really tough job and you all should be commended) :-|
