QF crazy flight pairing

I searched random dates in June and got the same $800 more so are you saying in general they no longer do Y+ sale fares LAX - SYD so thats the reason there is an additional $800.
So because of this the fare bucket on the whole thing moves up and thats where the $800 comes from.
BUT on Y & J this isnt an issue as there are likely sale fares in all those buckets and dates then

Just do a return SYD-LAX search and you'll see what I'm talking about.

I did a search for Aug 18 and found some Sale fares. They're likely to have sold out - they may have only added 2 seats per flight.

Just fly via BNE. Get all of your customs & immigration out of the way in BNE then you can make a quick getaway when you land in SYD - plus extra SCs. For the sake of $800 and just a few hours, it's not a big deal. The B744s won't be around much longer.

Ahaha, great status run.

How did it price compared to SYD-HND direct?
Didn't look. The times wouldn't work for me (had to leave in the afternoon). The more sensible routes to HND on QF were asking just over $3k for W at the time.
Ended up booking W on JL via MEL for $2k.
Means I have a 5 hour connection in MEL (JL MEL-NRT leaves just after midnight), but meh, F lounge.
