The only place in the world I've had items confiscated is in Australia. And I fly through the States alot with the same items that were taken from me here.
We had absolutely no issues with TSA on our recent trip, including leaving liquids in bags, not declaring epipens etc, They are way less bothered by things compared to days gone by.

Everyone in the TSA lounge was watching that moment his hand was passing over my groin crutch area while pretending to do so Nonchalantly. It was a creepy moment.

Overhead bins with seat numbers marked on them, like the ones between J and Y ... an easy way to identify those that take others' space in the overhead bins
Only problem being seats where the overhead contains on board medical equipment etc.

Well in the US they have installed new bins to meet demand. It’s gonna be a ways off from happening here, but we can hope!
 
Would almost certainly make no difference at a;;. As mentioned JQ allows you to buy an extra 7KG above their allowance of 7Kg normally.
And BA have an allowance of 23Kg. Haven't seen reports of their planes dropping out of the sky.

The real problem with the overheads is the size and number of bags people bring on. On our recent trip on QF at MCY we saw a family of mum and dad and the kids probably 4 and 6. They had 4 normal sized carry ons plus the children had their own smaller carry ons and as well 4 other bags.
The excess bags should have been taken off and put in with checked in luggage. These inconsiderates need to be made an example of!

Not denying the benefits of HLO (I do it myself as often as possible). Just stating I don't know how someone can carry on two roller bags as their allowance, unless in Business.
 
Another reason why people may want to travel carry on only. Making a tight connection. Thankfully mine is on AA and my carry on backpack will easily fit in the overhead with no weighing nonsense. I will have to run from DFW D to C terminal but at least I know my backpack will be safely on my back!

Curiously, I can't recall ever losing my luggage when it's been a really tight connection. Even though I've bounced off one flight and on to another, with them slamming the door behind me, my luggage has always made it. I think it must be because when it's a tight connection, they rush it across and the personal attention means it actually makes it, rather than disappearing into the baggage handling system and getting lost.

Yes, I was quite amused to see the FAs giving tuition on how to place bags on their side in the larger bins on a recent flight. But there are some extra long bags that appear where they just will not fit front to back, and these must be outside the bag limits and should be sent down below.

Though on the A,C seat side of the QF 717 normal bags have to go sideways but fit front to back on the DEF side.

The A321's coming in will have bigger bins so as the 737's are replaced this will definitely help imo. Probably the A220's too - I think their bins are a bit bigger.
