re: QF Companion Sale J and PE - on sale

Thanks for the heads up on this Markis10. you are fabulous. Just what I was hoping for.

Just a quick question regarding companion fares - if there are 3 travelling, do all 3 get the cheaper rate or only 2? Or does it depends on the airline or conditions of each different fare.

QF are saying two or more, so three would work, which is kind of weird given its a valentines themed sale, but I won't go there.

Some of the fares:

Asia in J $3500
LAX $5500

PE to HKG $2200
PE to LA $3000

Damn, I could really use this if I already had my award seats in place on the same flights for our trip to USA. Oh well, next time

re: QF Companion Sale J and PE - on sale

Going by previous years, how often does Qantas do the J Class companian fare sale? Once or Twice yearly?

re: QF Companion Sale J and PE - on sale

Woke up this morning to a red email with companion fares etc
an hour later my OH had booked MEL-LAX return in J for under 5k each on a380. (she told me - perhaps it is indeed $5500??)
Actually seems like a good deal! In April. Just need a few more points and we can enter the F upgrade lottery.
In 16JK and 17JK. If I remember rightly the 16s aren't the best, but I love that cabin.
We are going to JFK, not sure whether she couldn't get the special deal all the way? I will be 100 SC off platinum at the end of the trip

edit: I realise I can book F fares LAX-DFW-JFK or even more exotic and get those SCs but probably not possible due to timing.

Under 5K each?

Best I can see is $5499

Early bird must have caught the worm, enjoy.

Re: Qantas J sale

sorry deleted the original post because it had already been started elsewhere but apparently $4800 each J to LAX?? Don't be disheartened, maybe we got muddled. 5500 seems OK in any case

Re: Qantas J sale

Iwas reading the other day in SMH that a Chinese airline (cant remember which), the 6th largest in the world and Gulf region airlines are really targeting Aust with flights to Europe. I know they quoted the Chinese airline as $1500 odd return to Europe.

So I'm wondering if this intense competition will mean that Q wil be under the pump to lower prices to compete ? Maybe they hope to compete on the strength of their brand and image and be able to get away with higher fares.

Re: Qantas J sale

I don't think Qantas ultimately have much hope of keeping market share (what little they have) when their prices are thousands more than competitors. Not that I know very much. You are referring to China Southern I assume. My business is doing fine, but there is pressure out there and even if you need a lie flat bed as I do, the extra cash can't be justified. I haven't flown China S but relatives have and thought the planes were new and nice. Safety concerns, I don't know if they are real. That airline does plan to massively expand here from what I understand. QF claim the problem is their costs but I know people are skeptical.

Yeah China Southern. A mate's son is going to CDG from SYD for @1400 return in June. What is it about 6.5 hr layover? :?:

I looked at this option for my elderly mum. But didn't think she would handle that too well. In the end the ease of CBR-ABZ rtn. one airline all booked thru, interlined baggage for just short of $2200 with QF was too good.

Row 16 are probably the worst seats in the J cabin - my advice is to move.

Thank you. I remembered from my trip to ORD that they were bad, is it lack of leg room? Oh strike that... bathroom and galley and everything, now it all comes back to me.
so we have row 20 centre seats, but I might change that to window 21st row. I imagine more will open up later especially after I hit gold on the way..might finally get into the little front cabin. My only problem is trying to sleep on the way over with all the distractions.

Now is it my imagination or did you post a thread a day or two ago predicting cheaper J fares on Qantas, markis10? ;)

Booked a sneaky trip this morning. We already had a one-way F classic award from MEL-LAX on Dec 18.

So I booked MEL-LAX on Jul 28 in J, and coming back on Jan 10. So the return on the companion fare will actually be the return flight back from the F award! To get back in August I then snagged the one and only JASA showing from DFW-BNE-MEL at Classic prices - and managed to get 1A and 1K in the old F cabin on that flight to boot! (Here's hoping that 744 won't be reconfigured by then - I've never flown in the old QF F cabin, so wanted to do it once before they all disappear!)

Ah it's been a good day!

Front cabin is brilliant because it is just so quiet - give them a call and ask nicely, you never know you might get someone to allocate it for you! On the companion fare I booked it auto allocated rows 11/12 which was nice - however I will say there is not really a bad seat at all in the cabin. They all should have the same room, as the seats are totally flat at about 6'2" from memory - the exits may have a little more room. I haven't sat in row 16 but I don't see how it could lack legroom otherwise the seat wouldn't lie flat.

We could not get back from LAX as a JASA for late Aug. other than milk run LAX/AKL/BNE/CNS snagged JASA DFW/BNE/CNS last Sunday, also like you booked F seats too if it stays as old cabin, ours are middle aisle 4E/4F on advise from brilliant Serfty.

Interesting - all seats are available in the F cabin so I'd be interested to hear the feedback as we can still select any seat. Why are 4E/F better? The front 2 seemed good for two of us to have very little foot traffic - or do they use the front cupboard to store people's clothes when they change into PJ's? But if there are other suggestions I'm happy to hear them!

I have called and so far 13 is blocked out and the others are booked. Will keep trying but was perfectly happy in 19 last time, having travelled to Europe many times in Y on Olympic etc etc!
I have a feeling that the plane will be full of AFFers, we will need to keep in touch to arrange drinks. Trying to avoid the temptation to book for the end of the year (already have two round trips to Asia on classic awards)
