Hi all,

Have to fly JQ to AVV for a few early morning flights in the next month or so.

How much time (realistically) would it take to go to the biz lounge (am QF WP) in T3, pick up one of the pre-packaged breakfasts, and then head over to T2 and clear security for JQ?

Trying to decide whether it's worth the effort, or if I should just suck it up and head straight to T2.

Thanks,

n

Morning peak can be busy, I would put it an hour and a bit before your JQd flight, but you with WP meaning premium security screening, so that might help.
Seeing that there is no secret link from upstairs of T3 to upstairs of T2, so you have to go from ground, up escalators, go through T3 security, grab your brekkie, go back downstairs, walk through the throng of the carpark, go upstairs, through T2 security, and downstairs again after security to dep gate...
Seriously though, ... I would stick with just being in T2.

The walk isn't more than 5 minutes through the multi story car park if you're travelling HLO.

As for security, depends on the day, as I'm sure you know.

Personally I like getting to the airport early to avoid traffic and stress. Usually this leaves me time to do what you've suggested. On those occasions when I'm delayed I go direct to T2 and look on the bright side that I still made my plane. :)

Thanks all. HLO as it's just a day trip

Might give it a crack once or twice and see if it's worth getting out of bed an hour earlier.

If it isn't worth the time, then T2 isn't exactly the end of the world!

Do let us know.
Personally I wouldnt dare do it.
OT SYDd airport is like a ghost town at 4am.
Probably gets busier near 6am.
Was there to catch a taxi to SYDi airport in Dec last year.
You could time it to begin at 6am if your flight dep at 7.45am.

Have done it many times, can probably clear security and get back to T2 within 20-30mins - wouldn't bother for breakfast though probably only if the bar was open to make it worthwhile...

If you are coming from t3 the security at the western end of the terminal is handy. For breakfast T2 has some good options though. I like Movida at the airport when I'm travelling with Virgin.

Well, have done the trip a few times, and the verdict is in: it isn't worth bothering.

It takes about 20mins extra, with all the queues and clearing security twice.

No premium lane in T2 can slow things down at peak times (i.e. 0600), and Jetstar's tendency to depart at either extreme end of the terminal means it can be a long walk.

I'd rather spend the 20mins eating a nice brekkie instead of grabbing one and running, so T2 restaurants it is.

I do this all the time if I have a spare 30 minutes (eg arrive 60 mins before the flight)

i do a quick 20 mins in the lounge (toastie, coffee or beer, depending on hour of day)

priority WP line in T3, up to lounge, out via exit opposite gate 6 ish, turn right and follow around to the regional entrance of T2 on ground level. Has its own (little known) security screen. Take 10 mins max

Can anyone use this screening point? I've often walked past it on my way out of T2 but never used it... seems like a clever way to beat the queues upstairs?

Everyone can use the screening point downstairs. There is usually no queue and is much quicker than upstairs. Its very handy for a quick visit to the QP before a JQ flight.

Also has the bonus of leading you closer to the JQ pier ;)

Just don't tell everybody about it or it will start to get busy

I've been doing this trip weekly now and thought I'd try the visit to the QP again after my initial reservations.

I can confirm other's observations that if you are using the regional airline screening point, it is possible to do a quick dash into the Qantas lounge in T3 before ducking back across to T2 adding no more than 10 minutes, even on a bad day.

Thanks for the tips everybody.
