I am on QF128 tomorrow night HKG-SYD. I will be coming across to HKG from CAN sometime during the afternoon (by ferry). Can anyone tell me what time QF check-in will be open for this flight? Getting there early doesn't worry me because I'll get to sample the CX Flounge for the first time, but don't want to be stuck waiting for check-in to open.

Are you going to the ferry terminal at the airport ? If so the desk is open when you land at the ferry terminal as you have to be on the ferry a min of 3 hrs prior to the departure of your flight.

I didn't think that the ferry arrived at HKG airport. Guess I will find out tomorrow. The hotel concierge is also looking at details for me.

Shano,

Where are you coming from?

Gernerally the ferries go to HKIA or HKG city Star Terminal. As garyjohn51 pointed out, you will be fime going directly to the airport, so get on the ferry that takes you to the airport.

Am actually leaving from Foshan. Just collected a timetable from the hotel so now deciding what time will best suit.

QF128 does not depart until ~9pm so have all day to get to airport.

Shano,

If the ferry runs direct to the airport it is a very easy and painless experience although you need to catch the ferry (as someone mentioned) about 3 hrs before your flight. You also get a HK departure tax rebate as you don't actually re enter HK. If not then remember you can go via central and checkin early and have the day free, then go to the airport in time for your flight.

So you have a choice of Humen or Fuyong from Foshan. Personally I would get the train to HKG (from Guangzhou East station), have a day in the city, thenhead for the airport. It will take some time from Foshan to any port.

Cheers Guy's.

It looks like about 3 hours by ferry. Train from Foshan to Guangzhou East then on to Hong Kong is sounding better, with more frequent schedule.

Was just a bit worried about getting to HKG early and QF not having any check-in counters open. I guess I can always store my luggage and then head into the city on the MRT

... as I mentioned before, don't forget the Central Checkin option.

When you get off the train at Hung Hom, get the free shuttle bus to Kowloon airport express station. If you cannot check in early there, go to Central (by train) as Straitman suggested and check in early there, it is only a few minutes on the train, which would also leave you right in the city.

Thanks Bill and Jason, will try the Central checkin.

Was originally considering the easy option - taxi Foshan to Baiyun airport and then fly CAN-HKG - but I have all day so thought I would try a different routing option.

Plus the easy option would cost >1000 RMB, whereas the more "scenic" option will be much less.

I would be doing the same, no point spending a whole day at airports if some R&R is to be had.......

Agree with Jason, a grat place to spend a day. If you arrive before lunch catch a tram towards Happy Valley and sample a small restaurant down that end of the island, great food and heeps cheaper than around central station area, plus fron top the tram is a great view of the hussle and bussle of Hong Kong.

Since Shano is WP; In his place I'd doing whatever it takes to get a BP and arrive at CLK (HKG) by 5pm.

The Wing is a perfect place to prepare for your trip to SYD and 3 hours is just enough time to maximize this; just watch out for the attentive wine service in the haven.

Funnily enough made it to HKG at around 5pm, but this was of little use since QF check-in didn't open until 6:10pm (should have used the city check-in :(.

This still gave me a good 2 1/4 hours in the Wing, complete with first cabana experience . The very nice QF check-in agent made sure that I new where the QF lounge was, but didn't want to disappoint her by saying there was a better alternative.

Also managed a points upgrade to J, which was pretty good considering I changed flights at T-26hrs before departure and lodged the request straight away. Sorry to any SG's that missed out and had lodged their requests much earlier :p. 3 for 3 for points upgrades whY to J since being WP :D

Currently sitting in SYD QP and have just been paged and given an op-up to J for flight to MEL :)

Dont forget, the higher and luckier you are, the greater the disappointment when things turn. I am 3 from 4 on INT points upgrades.

Congrats Shano, we all share in any lotto wins though:)
